Title music will NOT change. I'm stumped.

So I'm working on another Cave Story hack (separate from the one I was making on Windows XP), and I've patched it with a ton of stuff. Booster Fuel Set, SIM's mus data, infinite Mimiga mask, all that fun stuff. For some reason my mod thought it would be funny to start playing Curly.org again even though I replaced the title music on purpose, and no matter how many times I replace Curly.org... it still plays when I get to the title screen! Last I checked I didn't have any beef with Ms. Brace, so I don't know why she's interfering with my modding. Grrr!!! And no, this isn't about "oh I left Booster's Lab open and I'm saving over the modded exe which is reverting the changes", BL is closed and nothing is modifying the exe except for Resource Hacker itself. The custom org was working just fine earlier, so I don't know why that's changed. I did modify some of the sound effects though, so I really hope that of all things isn't the cause. Anyway, either something weird is going on or I'm just dumb; someone please explain what the hell's goin on this time.

UPDATE: Looks like something broke! Apparently the game has decided it will CRASH if the song number is not negative, and every negative number plays Curly.org. I have NO idea what's causing this lol. I love bugs!!!!!!! [internal screaming]

Doesn't SIM's InfiniOrg hack make it so the music can be played from a new "Orgs" folder inside the data folder? You won't need Resource Hacker to replace the song, though. I have not tried using the hack myself, so hopefully someone more experienced with it would explain it better than I can.

Be warned tho, you will need to export the orgs and create the Orgs folder yourself, if you figure it all out.

Yes, except the folder is named "mus". The title screen still needs a number because it reads from the pre-loaded ORGs, not the mus folder... except negative numbers play Curly and 0/positive numbers crash the game. This wasn't happening before, and I still had the patch applied "before".

Small edit: It's only called Orgs for Doukutsu-RS, I believe.

UPDATE: New discovery! The value must be from -1 to -64, not just "not positive or 0".

The reason the song number would now be showing up as negative in 1_titlescreen.xml is because something patched over that offset, and so it's no longer pointing to a constant that can be edited. Look at the hack with an unmodified exe and you'll see it's supposed to be a normal positive ID number (the ID/CMU number for that song).

So SIMs mus hack has overwritten/patching that same area, meaning you need to switch the song using whatever method is required for that hack. Trying to change that again from the vanilla offset will just cause corruption.

You probably want to RE-APPLY SIMs hack (because of the corruption), and then have a track called Curly or CURLY.org in the folder. I'd imagine it's now a hardcoded filename and you cannot use ID numbers anymore.

Adding an org named Curly doesn't work, I already tried that. I re-applied the patch and the issue is still ongoing, so it's probably not the mus hack that's causing the problem. I'll try re-applying other patches and seeing what happens.

Yeah in vanilla it's zero. I am assuming this is freeware 2004 version 1.0.0.6 Cave Story you're editing (otherwise I'm surprised you got this far without things breaking sooner).

There's absolutely patch collisions happening. I don't mean a "bad patch" that's written wrong but patches that edit the same data and are thus colliding. Honestly not a lot of advice I can give to help other than to have a habit of making backups, and testing patches individually (especially big ones with lots of offsets) as opposed to throwing in a bunch of stuff at once.

Welp. I'd say "it's CSE2 time" but I don't know C++ and I have no idea where to go to make edits that would implement everything I wanted to implement. Including the orgs by the way, even though they're softcoded in CSE2. I either gotta build a team that knows what the heck to do or just give up entirely. Story of my life.

Maybe there is a mod for AVA that allows infinite orgs? @autumn_mnya may know.
