The real reason of "4-8-08"

Okay, so I was thinking about this the other day, and I thought that I should share with you guys what "Wife bor child, 4-8-08" means.

--SPOILERS!--

Okay, when you go to the Waterway cabin WITHOUT curly, the computer will display the message, "Wife bor child, 4-8-08".

Now, I think that anyone could figure out that maybe Pixel put his child's birth date in the game, but, --oh no-- the game was released in 2004. So he COULDN'T put his child's birth date in when it was in 2008, or so everyone thought..

BUT HE COULD

In Japan they have dates backwards from ours.

So it really means, "Wife bor child, 08-8-4"

August 8, 2004.

Cave Story was released on December 20, 2004.

Perfectly possible.

I have been seeing recent threads about this.

Like, "Unlockable character!" "Random numbers!" And silly stuff like that.

i thought i remember seeing somewhere in the labryinth or something though that it says something like "studio pixel this is all for now" and then some date i dont know what it was about

You may be referring to some of the unused stuff pixel put in. For example, Debug Cat on the balcony. There's probably more.

yeah like the beast fang but i remember seeing something when i was trying to edit stuff i dont think it had any plan related to the game

That's just stuff Pixel left behind for the testers: if you check the OuterWall's script for instance, you'll find one where he says he'll finish the last area later. It's just stuff that was translated but clearly it didn't serve a purpose other than for the testers.

I always thought that was interesting the way other countries do that sort of thing; culture-wise or not. I remember doing Spanish in Junior High and being confused originally at the date of 8/12/14 being done as 12/8/14; not Japanese date format but was odd initially.
