• Hey everyone happy Christmas Eve we're aware of what's happened with the source code so to keep this simple absolutely don't post it on the site or use it to make mods with (it's not particularly preferable toward this end anyway) and tread lightly in general until we see how this settles, thanks to all and have a great holiday season -DT

I was just saying that dismissing the Nemesis as a "duck shooter" isn't really fair considering that it really isn't that hard to keep it at level 1, although I guess I could have phrased it a bit better

It IS somewhat difficult to handle. When experience crystals are literally showering over you, it's hard to dodge, and switching weapons on the fly while running around and jumping is tricky. After all, Nemesis is for "Advanced players". Maybe some people just don't like the extra wrinkles, and that's fine. You can still beat the game and get a good speedrun of Sacred Grounds without it - not even Ballos is hard enough to necessitate such a weapon.
EDIT:Ninja'd.

That's a compliment, you know. Ducks are just cool. ;)

Yes, it's not quite truthful to dismiss it as a Duck Shooter, but even as a Lightning Bolt Shooter it doesn't hold as much emotional significance as King's Blade. It's specifically catered toward "I don't care, I just want to kill things" players. In fact, I believe you used the same choice in JNR?

The main reason the exp crystals thing isn't a problem for the nemesis is that the weapon levels down as fast as it levels up. If you accidentally make it lvl 3, just take a hit from something weak.

Let's just step back for a second. Everyone keeps talking about the "emotional aspect" of the blade. It's not like King's going to be upset - he isn't even real. Looking at the physical aspects of the weapons, the Nemesis is harder to master but has higher range and dps (probably), the blade is easier to use and has a spread effect but it has less range.

Honestly it seems to me that it depends on your playing style - bladers will likely play the game more cautiously and use the blade's spread effect to kill everything off, while Nemesis users will probably move around a lot more and play a little more dangerously.

I know...but I'm a sissy and also a natural roleplayer apparently. I care too much about the opinions of videogame characters. :toroko2:

Sorry about that. Don't let my inane posts make you think EVERYONE is talking about it.

Um...anyway, the Nemesis has more power than the blade at longer ranges due to it being able to fire two shots at a time, causing 24 damage. However, the shots are piercing type, so they go the full length almost all the time(in contrast, for example, a Polar Star shot is "absorbed" by a critter, while a Nemesis shot will go right through it). At least it goes quickly.

Because the Blade does more damage and doesn't really pierce as much as Nemesis, at close range it has a much higher DPS(assuming you keep it at Level 2, which you should in Boss Battles). You can spam-fire it to do much more damage than the Nemesis. Meanwhile, however, if your target happened to be close to a wall or other impenetrable object, the Nemesis could do higher DPS I'm guessing.

Regarding Boss Battles, I would go for the Nemesis. By the time you get the Nemesis, the Blade has already been used on the bosses it's most effective against (Monster X, Ironhead kinda). The only boss I can see the Blade being useful against by the time you're allowed to get the Nemesis is The Doctor, but the Nemesis still works fine if you don't have the Sword. Also, I don't know why you'd want to verse the Heavy Press without the Nemesis, it just doesn't seem right.

Personally I've always hated Blade Lv. 3, I much more perfer it at level 2 so I can get up close and personal so I can see the blood of my slain enemies.

Well yes there is the difference between level 2 and 3, so I guess it would be a different comparison if you decided to use level 2.

Look, don't let these guys hoodwink you. By the time you return Mr. Little, the Blade has outlived its usefulness. If you want DPS, use Super Missiles. The Nemesis can pour out a fair amount of damage if you can mash fast enough, and at long range, too. The Doctor is really the only fight where the Blade is useful, and that's not enough to make up for the fact that effectively using the level 2 Blade in any boss fight after that is going to put you in significant danger.
Of course, if you're a scrub that can't dodge exp crystals, then maybe you shouldn't use the Nemesis.

Has anybody noticed that you get the nemesis in hell? And it won't level up.....i think that its best to keep the blade and get the nemesis when its most useful..... just a little later

No, that's not how it works
Curly has her own Nemesis (don't ask why I don't know either), but you can still use yours for the same reg effects

...Also you get the Nemesis at the near-end of the game, there's like two long areas you go through before it's untradable.

I think it was given to her by Cthulhu, since she apparently lost her gun in the Waterway.

Blade level 2 spawns ever so slightly behind the player. As a result, you can stand in Ballos' eye socket, face away, and mash the fire key to hit him with both your blade and the Nemesis at the same time, draining his health far more than the Spur could in even multiple shots (Although everyone should have been aware of this 6 years ago).

While the Nemesis has its benefits, it ultimately falls short as the weaker weapon in any situation in the regular game, due to its constant urge to throw EXP-cheese at you (Which is there, ironically, to challenge the Nemesis player). While I'd argue 3HP runs as a potential breaker, even in this situation it makes the Nemesis under-par due to gathering EXP-cheese becoming a death sentence instead of a ranged peace of mind (And you could probably use any Polar Star branch in any situation the nemesis calls for, anyway). And, in any situation where you could take a hit to drain the Nemesis back to its most powerful state, you could just as well take the hit with the Blade and simultaneously wail on the enemy you took the hit from.

I mean really, there isn't much of a contest here.

@Polaris Honestly, I kinda attach myself to video game characters too, so I'm in the same boat with you there.
@Captain Fabulous I don't like the Missile Launcher (Or Super Missile Launcher as well) at all. Having a limited ammo kinda makes me feel that after I use it, I can never use it again. If I really need to, I can live to use the Missile Launcher, but I don't use it often. (Also, if I rely on it and I run out a bit too soon, I might be messed over. Ballos' final form will tell you so...)
In all reality, I don't like dodging the exp crystals, and since the Nemesis uses a different playstyle, it's harder for me to adjust on the fly. (During Sacred Grounds when going for a good time for example) I also think that the Nemesis is better for enemy control and Blade is pure dps (Aside from Missile Launcher and at level 3, which serves as crowd control there)

I heard somewhere that if you don't get the missile launcher in the beginning of the game, you can get it in hell with 100 missiles...

Well, the 100 missiles are easier to level up, and even if they don't do as much damage and are slower, the huge stock means you can essentially use it as a standard weapon, which is still very useful.
