Spelunky

Spelunky is a fun little platformer, exploration type game. It has some elements of roguelikes like the fact that there are no saves and the maps are randomly generated. The goal of the game is to collect treasure and to get to the ending.

This game is loads of fun for a lot of reasons. Although it is very hard, and you will die a lot at the beginning, it's fun to play. The best thing about it is discovering all the different things you can do in game (like trying to kill the shopkeeper, or sacrificing the girl at the ritual table), and it makes for some great gameplay. And even though there's no saves, every 4 levels or so there's a shortcut digger who, if you pay him enough money (will probably require visiting him a couple of times), he will dig a shortcut to that level and then you can start from that level anytime.

Good ol' Spelunky. The new XBLA version looks pretty sweet.

I beat this game 100% like a year and a month ago.

I was actually attempting to stream Spelunky on Ustream, and while being a fool and trying to do it full screen, my computer froze, I commenced to rage my fist-smashing my keyboard. However, there is a little wooden part over my keyboard (since it pulls out of the desk) and I hit that, resulting in tearing 2 chunks of skin off my hand.

I still have plainly visible scars from it.

I haven't played this game in a year, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say press Down or Up.

In the tutorial level, you stand in front of them and then the text will automatically pop up at the bottom of the screen. After that there won't really be any signs.

 

I tried this briefly when it came out (think we already had a thread?). Didn't like the control scheme so I didn't persist with it.

Search function only turned up a thread about "Top 5 games" and one about roguelikes. So I assume there's no other thread about this game here.

If you have a link though, well then go ahead and post/merge the threads.

Also you can change the key configuration with the config.exe, if that was an issue. (I use a different one from the default myself)

My brother introduced me to Spelunky a few months ago, I was reluctant at first but now I'm hooked. I have well over 1000 deaths and probably about 10 wins. There are some awesome mods for it like TLS (Tastes like spelunky), Spelunky mage and a few others.

I'd have to agree with the control scheme problem, which is why i was able to play it fine with my xbox 360 controller (on pc).
