I know the feel. I've been speedrunning Cave Story for about a month and I can get my best time to about 1:20~, but I feel like there was more I could improve upon, but not sure where to start. I was just curious about whether there were guides or not out thereRubyyoshi said:I have been considering to speedrun Cave Story myself. Haven't gotten around to it though... (I did some attempts, had about an hour and 20 minutes or so for my fastest time)
You can stand on most, if not all, enemies heads, but you will get damaged, the only time you are safe is in a cutscene or whilst you have your invincibility frames.since when can you stand on enemies heads?
It's a TAS (Tool Assisted Speedrun) meaning he has the ability to do things a normal human would not be able to do, such as shoot extremely fast, skip the text insanely fast and do frame accurate jumps. How is it that he shoots so fast?
There could be multiple reasons for that:When he fights Monster X he didn't get hurt bt the tire treads when he touched thier sides.
You're guessing wrong.Metroidvaniac said:I'm guessing he may have made it so only projectiles do damage.
It couldn't be that because otherwise he would not be able to damage boost. What enemies, specifically, is he standing on that aren't causing him to take damage?Metroidvaniac said:There are several times he stands on enemies without taking any damage whatsoever, not in a state of temporary invulnerability. Other times he's visually pushed without taking any damage. I'm guessing he may have made it so only projectiles do damage.
I'm pretty sure there are other things such as save states and calculated/completely frame perfect key presses done by the computer and not the player himself. Slowing the game down isn't the definition of a tool assisted speed run.andwhyisit said:The only difference between a TAS and a normal speedrun is that the player has much, much more time to react in a TAS. That's it.
What do you mean, "save states no"? Of course he used save states, or else this would've been the biggest pain in the ass to make.Dunc2403 said:Save states no, but you're right in that it's not just slowdown. Also, I don't think you understand what we mean by slowdown. You're probably thinking slow-mo. It slows it down so you can decide what happens in each frame. What he also does is looks at certain variables in the game. In this TAS, he does it mainly for the purpose of luck manipulation, to know what he'll be getting from a defeated enemy.
