• Hey everyone happy Christmas Eve we're aware of what's happened with the source code so to keep this simple absolutely don't post it on the site or use it to make mods with (it's not particularly preferable toward this end anyway) and tread lightly in general until we see how this settles, thanks to all and have a great holiday season -DT

Replacing the main character sprite?

I don't know which program Pixel used, use Photofiltre to change the palette.

The spritesets (and tilesets) have their own palletes, Paint shows the default colours but it automatically turns it into the closest color of the custom pallete. You have to draw either using the exixting colours or if you want to use other colors you need to change the pallete file.

For some reason The (c) pixel message doesn't appear anywhere in Hexecute (the hex editor I use for rom-hacking purposes)

I've worked around the problem by copying the sprite image onto a new .bmp file, which can be coloured whichever way I want in Paint. The new file is then saved over the original file and renamed .pbm.

It works fine in game, as far as I know.

In my opinion, It's easier to just add the (C)Pixel to the end of the .pbm file. It doesn't really matter either way, but Sue's workshop f*cks up if it doesn't find the (C)Pixel line in the .exe...

(So, yes, you could just copy and paste all the .pbm files in Eternal chaos to the original Cave story file, and play the game using my/other's gfx...)

Lol, how true. When I extracted Crowned Witch for the first time to a copy of my Cave Story folder, my Profile was still there, as I forgot to delete it. So I played through Hell as a mimiga with a green hat. ;)

no, I searched manually through the pbm XDDD I didn't find anything so I searched then for the hex code in the exe with the actual search function.

I have no idea why I haven't searched for the text...

OH YEAH how easy I have 50 Pbm's and need to add the signature to all of them, instead of changing one value in the exe... Man you're great! :p (Sorry I'm being too cynical lol)

Anyhow Sue's Workshop will use this too in some time...

Well, I find looking up the (C)Pixel in the exe and changing it back and forth every time I want to test the game with the gfx annoying. I play-test way more often then I edit gfx, so It's really abit easier. Maybe I'm just crazy.

Then use the other methode. Change it in the exe.
