Not necessarily true. Certain pbms are done in 256 colors and the rest are done in 16 colours.

It gives the standard "Image not found" error.
It doesn't work. There isn't even assembly code changed it seems. How can you expect it to work, when Cave Story is only coded for BMP's? It doesn't work that way.

Well, that's kinda funny.

Just turn the (C)Pixel requirement back on.
I got the same errors, and then opened it with CE and unchecked the box for removing the requirement and it worked fine. :D
You can then remove the requirement and it'll still work.
I'm guessing the direct data files {Not the NPC or Stage ones} were redone shortly before the release and Boots just forgot to remove the requirement, and CS got upset at the mix up.
It's like a rule that first releases are always buggy, in some way or the other. But that's why we've got versions. :)
