• Hey everyone happy Christmas Eve we're aware of what's happened with the source code so to keep this simple absolutely don't post it on the site or use it to make mods with (it's not particularly preferable toward this end anyway) and tread lightly in general until we see how this settles, thanks to all and have a great holiday season -DT

What are all the plot/path changing points in the game?

Just curious, considering I just beat the game normally, and noticed I couldn't get the towrope and booster 2.0 because I got the .08.

So, I want to know all the other ones. (If any)

Also, I searched for this and couldn't find it. :(

The other one I know about is another point in the story where you can save Curly again in another way. I don't know if this is needed to go to the real final level of the game or not, or if you just need to save her the first time.

So, that means the only thing that changes what happens is if you get the Booster .08 other then the thing you just mentioned there about saving Curly at another point, though I wouldn't think it would set you on the harder path.

Getting the Booster 2.0 and saving Curly with the towrope are important since they lead you to the final area, just not sure about the second time you save her if it's important or not.

A reason why Jacob will be playing through the game yet again.

If I remember correctly, you just go through a three phase boss fight then you escape.

I'm fairly certain that to change the plot course, don't talk to Booster & just head straight for the Boulder Chamber door. Also, Curly needs to be saved completely (From Core room to Ironhead boss battle, where she drifts away, yet still being alive).
Finally, recover her memories with a certain item so she'll give you the final key to enter... Well, I won't mention it, yet... Make sure to talk to her again after restoring her memory to get that item, however.
Taking the Machine Gun does NOT majorly alter the plot (Otherwise, Darknessthecurse on YouTube wouldn't have reached... Well, you'll see...).

To answer Jacob's question, however, I do recall reading a thread stating something along the lines of "I drained the water from Curly & left her there. She hasn't appeared again since then & I can't get back to the Waterway. Am I screwed?", with most responses saying Yes. As for the other situation (No draining, Curly's life functions ceasing before the end of the Waterway), though I've never tested it, I'm quite positive it results in the same thing as leaving her behind.

Wait, why can't you get back to the Waterway? Can't you teleport to the Labyrinth and go east and enter the Curly stage and to the Waterway? Or just enter Chaba's and teleport and the Waterway?

Though Pixel did intend a return trip to the Waterway by setting a skipflag that prevents a 2nd battle with Ironhead (Revealed elsewhere on these forums), it's not possible to return without editing the game script (Or using a spare save file). There's no teleporter in the Waterway anywhere & the door in the bottom right corner of Labyrinth M "Won't open..." (This, I have checked out myself), most likely due to the water's pressure on the other side.

If that is the case, however, then why doesn't that door open from either side? Unless it's a door that's pushed open on one side & pulled on the other, It should just be a single side of the door sealed by the pressure & not both, right?

Bosses should have been made of doors.

If taking a weapon never makes a difference in the story, could you get the Spur as soon as you steal the polar star but simply walking back in?

If not, what's the earliest point that you can get it at?

After the Ironhead battle. If you walk back in the Hermit's place after taking the gun, he'll be still sleeping. And if you get there using the MG, he'll be out on a walk. Even though it has no impact on the story, there's still that little issue called "gameplay ballance".

So, he's basically always sleeping until you get the booster 2.0?

And if you roleplay along with the story, it *could* be part of it. :p

Edit: Jack, I assume you play Diablo 2? Your location seems to say so.

No, he's only sleeping at the game's beginning. If you use lv3 Machine Gun to propel yourself up to the First Cave before you battle Toroko, the Hermit won't be at home. You'll only find there a note saying that he's away at the moment. No difference in relation to gameplay or story, but still...

Um... Yeah, guess so. I don't understand...

I assume the game checks if you have the polar star or not when you revisit first cave.

That item is
Ma Pignon, which you get after you defeat it.
