Not really. Is the classification system of living things (kingdom -> phylum -> class -> (group/family, don't remember what order they come in) -> genus -> species) worthless because some classifications are subsets of others? It just allows you to give an arbitrary level of specificity.

I guess so, but it certainly makes the vegetable/fruit discussion stupid.

Yes, I can see that :awesomeface:

Also, I was under the impression that a vegetable didn't necessarily have to be edible, though, in modern English, it's almost never used to refer to something non-edible, so for all practical purposes, it might as well be always edible.
