I also find it interesting that all three pictures of quote where he's wearing his red hat and pants also show him with a red scarf. Perhaps it was meant to be red all along, but you couldn't distinguish it on the sprite so he made it green? :D

Are you sure he didn't just look human? I think Pixel planned Quote as a robot from the very beginning. The antennae might have come later.
