The earth has a very large thermal mass, which means that during the summer, it 'collects' warmth. During the fall, the air is kept warmer as this heat is released from the earth. However, during the winter, negligible warmth is acquired, so in spring, the earth is going to be colder, especially near the start.
Spring often feels warmer than fall because our bodies have become acclimated to different temperatures. The summer gets us used to like 80s/90s, so when it drops down to 60, hey dat be cold. The winter gets us used to 10s/20s, so when it gets up to be 60, it feels extraordinarily warm.
But yeah. cosh.
