If you have a 3DS and haven't received the news yet, Nintendo is dropping the price of the 3DS real soon. But for the 800'000+ people who got the console before the dramatic price drop, you will become an Ambassador! This means when NES and Gameboy Advance virtual console games come out in September, you get 10 free NES games and 10 free gameboy games! I also heard somewhere in there you get to play select games before they come out, if they even do (for free). Read the full article for dates and prices and other stuff.

Oh yes, you need to access the E-shop before the 11th of August to become an Ambassador!

[And if anyone here owns a 3DS, can we exchange friend codes??]

That's a hell of a price drop, but I have no regrets

The price difference is about $80, so essentially we've paid for these games in advance for the price of about $4 apiece.

Wait I just realized these are GBA games we'll be getting, not GameBoy. While I love and respect the monochromatic splendor of the Brick, GBA games kick ass and I can't wait to play Metroid Fusion legally and on an actual handheld.

In truth I haven't actually used my 3DS for anything except pokemon black, but I'm going to buy a small stack of games with Shoppers Drug mart reward points if they ever come into stock.

If I can convince my parents that it isn't a waste of money, I'm so gonna buy one. Probably not until after the price drop though.

The first phase of the ambassador program starts today, that being the NES half of the 20 free games. The list of titles is as follows:

Legend of Zelda (*****)
Zelda II: Adventure of Link (*****)
Super Mario Bros. (*****)
Metroid (*****)
Wrecking Crew (**)
NES Open Tournament Golf (**)
Donkey Kong Jr. (**)
Balloon Fight (***)
Ice Climber (***)
Yoshi (****)

Additionally there's something called the "Ambassador Certificate" and I think it's some kind of notification software for the ambassador program

Zelda II and Metroid are the ones I am most excited to play. i'll also have to try out Wrecking Crew since I've never heard of that one, and Yoshi is a pretty decent casual puzzle game; I owned the GameBoy port of it.

Ha, I was about to update this, too.
I'm really looking forward to beating Metroid, I have not gotten far in any Metroid game.
Before I've played Wrecking Crew, I've only heard bad things about it. I played it, and it's a fine game, to be honest.
And NES Open Tournament Golf: I can't even figure out how I'm supposed to play this D:

Ever played Mario Golf?

First you set up your parameters (swing speed, club, ball hit spot) then it takes you to swing mode
press A once to start the swing, press it again to set power (lefter is more powerful) and press A a third time to set accuracy (you're aiming for the white mark)

I guess it's not the worst golf game I've ever played so my one star may have been a bit harsh but still, sports games on the NES are typically not extremely fun or intuitive.

Ah, I see. I wasn't hitting the A button enough when I was swinging. Thanks Nox. I still can't get less than 10 on any course though... Practice makes perfect I guess...

Update: Even this has nothing to do with the Ambassador (The GBA games have not been released yet), the Legend of Zelda: Four Swords is now free on both the DSi and 3DS systems for a limited time! Get yours before it becomes not free!

I just finished playing this. Pretty cool, if a tad short. Nintendo sure loves massaging that nostalgia nub.

[I love it too].

Eh, it's cool, but not amazing.

Of course it's free, so I'm not complaining.

Aaaaaalright... while this update doesn't directly relate to the Ambassador program, there is a cool new update coming up in early December.

Nintendo 3DS System Update Information

November 28,2011

The upcoming Nintendo 3DS system update is in the final stages of internal testing and will be available by December 8. We will provide an additional update once the system update is officially available.

This system update includes the following features:
3D video recording via the Nintendo 3DS Camera
New game content in StreetPass™ Mii Plaza™, including Find Mii II
Transfer of downloaded software and data between Nintendo 3DS systems
Save up your PlayCoins for the updated Streetpass... and 3D video recording?!? Hell yes!

They still haven't announced when they plan to release the GBA games, and it is almost the end of 2011, which is when they are supposed to. So... be patient, I guess.

But I want my free-of-charge Metroid Fusion NAOW! :p Also more GBA games available at the EShop... Which seemingly will only come up after those ten freebies.

Now our blurry 3D pictures will be able to move!

I'm wondering what that means by "transfer downloaded content between 3DS systems".

Lol yes. The trailer on the e-shop made it look pretty epic, though. Not even the bad quality can stop the epic-ness of the crazy 3D and stop-motion thingy it showed off! :droll:

I believe this means that you can send content you downloaded over to another 3DS system, although I am unaware if you can send it back.
