• Hey everyone happy Christmas Eve we're aware of what's happened with the source code so to keep this simple absolutely don't post it on the site or use it to make mods with (it's not particularly preferable toward this end anyway) and tread lightly in general until we see how this settles, thanks to all and have a great holiday season -DT

Well first of all, are you on Mac or PC? I only know how to do it on Mac, so if you're using a PC I'm sure someone else will be able to help you out.

Cheap and time consuming.

The only thing I can think of for a PC take's a bit of work...
Basically whenever you've just saved in Cave Story, you copy the Profile.dat next to the EXE and move it somewhere else. Then if you ever wanted to backtrack to that save, you just move it back.
I've been trying to keep a collection of saves, and it's pretty time consuming...

Though I heard the WiiWare version is going to have actual save slots....

Or you can just copy the profile.dat into the same folder as cavestory and rename it with the details of the save (ex. beforeMonsterX.dat). Then you can just rename it to profile.dat when you need to, or copy it AND rename it to profile dat if you want to keep it as a permanent save.

Hm, I don't find that file xD
I used the search-function, but it found a video-clip o.O

Ah, yeah, the WiiWare version has 3 save slots.

That file says, that I should put it into the Cave Story Directory or something like that.
Where is that directory?
I put it in the Cave Story folder and it doesn't work...

Thanks for your responses^^!

Profile.dat is located in the same directory as Doukutsu.exe (the game executable). The CS Profiler goes into the same directory.

In the Profiler, select a save file, then right click and select "Backup...". Then input a name for the file. The file will be copied into the same directory.
If you want to play any of the profiled saves, just double-click it, or select it, right click and "Play XXX.dat".

So, if I want to create a file, I'll have to backup the current file and use this file to create a new file?

Create File = New File
New File = New Savegame

I'm not sure if I understand you, but there's only one way to create a save file: Save your game in Cave Story.

*sigh*
Right, there are three simple tasks that can be done:

1. To create a *new* profile, click File>New.
Type a 3 letter name for the profile.
The new profile will automatically be set to the *active* one (the one that is loaded when you select LOAD in CaveStory)

2. To change the *active* profile, double click on it.

3. To delete a profile, *single* click on it and click File>Del

Simple. No need to *backup* or anything.
I assume we are using v0.1b.

EDIT: The *new* profile will be at the Start Point btw.
