I had an idea a little while ago. What if there were different groups for modders, like coding, spriting and mapwork, where we could discuss our work, in the form of threads?
We could also maybe have banners for our signatures so other modders know who to turn to for help. Maybe members could rate themselves on their skill from 1 to 10.
Whaddya guys think?

Current groups:
Story/plot

Artwork

(Put that in your signature, but change the <> to [])

Programming (subheadings TSC, ASM)

So the Parts of modding would be:
Story/ Plot
Artwork - Spriting etc..
TSC
ASM hacking
Org Making

Is that it?

Or maybe we'd just have a group of people, and that'd be the group. They'd each have certain ranks...

@kick ass there's also ORG making.

It might be interesting to have more than one rank depending on the group, for example, coding uses TSC and ASM, so there could be one rank for each.

This sounds like a good idea to get modding more organized, but I'm still not a modder so... yeah. I may look into it later this month though; I've had some ideas bouncing around my head for the past few weeks that could be implemented into a mod nicely.

Just ask if you need a (free) hacking mercenary.

Ha, I love the idea and it will be really awesome once we really implement it. So I fully approve.

[And just some crazy idea. This forum has enabled reputation before, but it didn't turn out well, maybe we should only enable it for the modding sections? I'm pretty sure the admins could do that if they wanted to.]

We could have a link to say, 'Groups' up top between say, FAQ and Community?

I dunno.

That would be awesome. Maybe there could be a separate subtopic in hacking/modding for groups.

EDIT: So what do you guys say we pitch this idea to doublethink, if he hasn't already seen this thread?

I don't understand the point in this at all apart from arbitrary dickmeasuring. If somebody needs help they can ask in the quick answers thread.

If you want to discuss some aspect of modding I guarantee you we probably have a thread for it somewhere. A thread for My Chars, a thread for Level Design, a thread for ASM techniques, a thread for ORG discussion..

Aw, you're no fun, nox.
Well, it would help modders distinguish who's good at what, so they can ask that person for help.
Or to become an apprentice, or something, I don't know.

Again.. Quick answers thread is usually preferred to individual queries, because then it can be viewed by anybody who uses the forum and knows how to do this stuff, so if it can't be answered there then there's probably nobody who can answer it.
Apprenticing? ..:D

And who would give these ranks anyway? Does somebody get appointed to say "You suck at TSC"? Self-appointed rankings are almost always meaningless, because there's no standard metric for one, and for two, the more somebody knows about a subject, the more they realize there is that they *don't* know. An 8 for one person might as well be a 394 for somebody else.

The new members at least appear to be having fun discussing their "projects", so I don't want to be too much of a downer, but I personally think that blatant brandishing of "skill" or whatever is not really cool. This is a really small community and it isn't really hard to figure out who's capable of doing what by looking at the things they've made or just lurking in general. If my memory serves me, this is one of the reasons why the reputation system was never implemented, because we simply don't need it.

Well, bleh. You get a bleh for making sense.
It still seems fun to do, though. I don't think of it as much as bragging, more that it's supposed to help new modders. I guess you're right, though. What do you other guys think?

I still think we should implement it. after all atleast that way someone doest have to browse 20 pages just to find out how to decrease the number of ammunition for a gun.
