Misery's name???

I just wonder, who would name their child Misery? Jenka couldn't have known she would become the way she is today, so why give your child such an emo and evil name? Maybe it's not her real name and she changed it due to a teenage phase and wanted to rebel against society because she's ttly gpffik?!

Yeah I have nothing. Discuss. Actually educated theories welcome.

 

Maybe it's a reference to some mythology,
Maybe Jenka's unknown husband was an emo,
Maybe Jenka's a troll? I dunno, anybody else got ideas?

 

Maybe on the island, the word (or name) 'Misery' isn't quite as bad as we consider it to be. Misery could be a common name for witches in the Cave Story universe!

Jenka has always seemed more knowledgable than the average, in a way. She never really panicks (except after being violat- I mean, robbed off her key by Balrog).
It may be the perfect cliché of the old person who has been through a lot of things, but she might also have something else that allows her to be this calm...
Perhaps SHE CAN SEE THE FUTURE randomly and for briefs amounts of time, and she saw that Misery was going to become a bad person (because of the Crown, yes, but Jenka did not see that) and thus she named her child Misery.

"Misery" is not her real name.
Oh sure, that's what nearly everyone calls her. But Jenka, her mother, never calls her Misery (or by name, either). Chances are that Misery is a nickname based on her state of life since the Demon Crown was made, that was given to her by either Ballos or the first crown bearer and stuck fast.

As to what I gave her as her real name, I have that come up in a story which has been... in-progress for years.

 

Her name might just be plain old Miza for all we know.
It may just be the translator's fault.

people can have very strange names, trust me. But if it's her last name, then it seems they are calling her by last name.

 

I think it's a liberal translation of Japanise "Mizary" or "Miza" . I'm not sure what that means. On the other hand maybe she called herself like that out of some teenage rebellion.

 

Speaking of Misery, she, like jenka, never calls herself by name.

Umm... yeah, I think it's most likely a name she chose for herself. Jenka doesn't really seem like the type to troll her children.

On a side note, this is my first post in the cs sections of the forums in months - guess I felt like a change of pace...

 

There is of course the possibility Misery was named after the Stephen King novel "Misery", which featured a fictional character named Misery.

Let me say my theory again.

Misery is Miza.

She calls herself Misery (or Mizari for japanese) because she is bound by the crown.
Alternatively because no one except Balrog said her name, that might just be his pet name for her.
