I think balrog was an early experiment of technology and magic to insert a dying child's memories into a robot shell. With pooh black and balrog's inability to age mentally being side effects the project would have been cancelled and balrog forgotton, until misery found him. Pooh Black would be sorta like a split personality entity thing created by the magic element as a side effect, more like the grownup serious version of balrog. This is only a wild theory, but it fits.

I've seen "demon" being used for "crown bearer" in a fanfic. It does make sense since the Crown is the Demon's.
