I've been looking into the new Tekkit, it looks like the replacement for IC2 is "Thermal Expansion," which is sort of an addon to Buildcraft that brings in all the things IC2 gave us. It looks really nice so far, the GUIs for the machines are super customizable and things seems really standardized, for example all the machines let you customize which sides are used as the input or output(s) for each slot in the GUI, cool stuff.
So maybe I'm not too against losing IC2, this may be enough of a change-up to make it feel fresh again.
