The REAL story remains untold. Quote was actually once a little human boy. When he was crushed by a falling refridgerator, his mother recreated him as a robot with the power of a million ponies. (TM)
He was employed by the government to pilot a remote controlled mimiga body called a SIGNATURE. Shinji Ikari also applied, but was rejected for being a limp-wristed little twerp.
But Quote fell in love with Chaco, who helped him realise that working for the government automatically makes you a bad guy. Unable to complete his mission to convince the mimiga to migrate to Canada, Quote discarded his mimiga body and reluctantly joined the assault on the island - realising that copping out and helping the furry people would make him a cliche.
