Make Cave Story Use Midi?

I haven't yet done this mainly because I don't have a non-looped Cave Story soundtrack.

You're probably never going to get it either, since the loop points for a lot of cave story songs aren't just at the start and the end, that is, some songs have a little intro that's outside of the main loop.

I still don't see why you don't just record this yourself, it's not like we haven't told you how to.

I plan to do it myself - I meant it doesn't exist yet.

I still need to figure out how to do the loop points accurately.

 

So I could achieve voice acting this way, or would that not work?

It'll only work if you choose to have no music in your mod if that hack would come into existance.
EDIT: Also, you'll be having a very limited number of voice tracks whether it's with the ORGKutsu hack or the hypothetical PxTone and MP3/WAV/OGG hacks.

It would be possible to add FMOD for playing audio, and leave ORG support intact..

 

So I understand this lets you add (short?) OGG/WAVs to PxTones and play them in Cave Story (or something) but how do you actually do it...

Using the ptCollage application, you can drag and drop the WAVs/OGGs under the "Voice" tab.

With FMOD, you can have files of any duration. You'd need to use assembly to add it. Or rather, I would.

 

So there's a way to do it without assembly? If so -- how?

There is no converter, at least one that works well, because this format was made by Pixel, and isn't very well known.

 

There is an org to midi converter that works fairly well, but the reverse is what we in the industry call "ear-raping garbage from the depths of hell"

 

I'm sure an midi to org could be done with great knowledge of both formats, but nobody really wants to because it would be so much work and lead to so many many more memes.

The org format is much simpler than midi, loss will always occur as a result, regardless of how much work is put into it. You have no idea how relatively complex the midi format truly is.

 

The trick is trying to get the same effects.
Either that or I should stop talking about stuff I don't know about...
