Shame. Fighting the Doctor is a cakewalk. Dodge the red energy snakes by boosting up. It only takes about 15 missiles to take out his first form. Muscle/frenzied Doctor can quickly be taken out with charged Spur, Blade, Nemesis, missiles, or bubbles. The Doctor's bat swarms pose little threat if you shoot at him as he spawns them, which will destroy most if not all. If you are terrible at dodging, use the level 3 Bubbler to fend them off.
When the Doctor inhabits the Core, watch out once he's down to down to half health because he'll prepare to shoot balls of energy (not beams) that travel at a fairly high speed but may be easily avoided by staying near the ground.
Also: After taking a few hundred points of damage or after 20 or so seconds, the Core will shut its face. During the resulting breaks between his attacks, you should take out the Critters and bats spawned by Misery if you need refills of health, missiles, energy. You will need as many missiles as you can retain to beat Hell. And while you are fighting the Core, do not use your life pot. Save it for the final boss.
Keep a watch out for the Core's projectiles in all cases. Knocking out Misery is not a great idea for your first time fighting the Doctor as Core because she can be farmed for powerups. Sue can be dodged with ease if you spot her as she starts her ninja spin toward you, since she will not alter course once in motion.
