I'm guessing what caused the error with mine was that one or more of your *.txt files did not have a corresponding *.html file, amirite? I didn't put any safegaurd in to make sure each txt had an html.

Three things:
1.) Wedge: each *.txt was generated from the HTML.
2.) Lace: It seems to be grabbing the wrong line... :/
3.) All: Would it be easier or harder to grab the data from a cell of an *.xls file? If easier/more accurate, the data would be in cell A5 (This I know for a fact)...

I couldn't get to sleep, so I triple posted.
this should work, it's automated like cheesys, has no messy dlls, uses nice language when talking to you, and above all, is pretty.
also, you can change the line number at the start of the program, so i don't have to keep making these.

I copied my documents folder and ran it, it's pretty fun.
linky.

this is why I shouldn't wake up early.
I was reading that post for a good ten minuts cuz I thought it was one of those things* and not the other things.

*ya know, these ones.

wait, does this work for you?
cuz I just re-tested it and it did some weird stuff. (only renaming one file, corrupting a file, etc)

lol
Two minor hitches: It seems to be unable to handle having a "*" in the source line (ignoring it is an option) and it'd be much better if it could name things sequentially (ie. file.txt, file(2).txt, file(3).txt), as some of the documents have the same title.
(Don't blame me, I'm not the poet. ._.'')

Edit: I gots me thinking...
If you searched out a string in line 0 (header line. String is similar to "1515 of 2041", with "1515" being the target number - keeping in mind it can be a number from 1 to 4 digits and may not always appear in the same place in the line) and appended it to the contents of line 3 (title line), ignoring any illegal filename characters... It would be God for breakfast. Plus you wouldn'g have to worry about duplicate file names, as each has it's own unique # of #.

Par example:
Code:
Poetry by Poet Name<< Latest < Previous PoemPoems by Poet Name - Poem 1515 of 2041 - Posted on 4/4/2007Next Poem > Earliest >>

~**~ YOU ~**~
You came into my life and never
Would it ever be the same again

Would become:

"~~ YOU ~~ (1515).txt" and "~~ YOU ~~ (1515).html"

Or something.
If you can do that, I'll mail you cookies*.
Seriously.

*= Upon completion of this project and me recieving a valid mailing address. Offer void where prohibited by laws against mailing deliciousness (including all countries outside of Canada). Limit one per Lace per assignment.

Ps. Apart from my hangups on the trifles noted here, works beautifully.

EDIT2: Pps. Yes, it is in fact line 3. >.>
Stupid ordinal numbering.

I'll get to work on this when I get home.

So, you're sure it's line 3, not line 4, right?

And is it safe to assume all newlines will be 0x0D0A?

EDIT: nvm about the newlines, I just got that you don't actually want to modify the contents of the file, just the name.
