This Friday, June 14th is World Blood Donor Day.
YOUR FIVE MINUTES- SOMEONE'S ENTIRE LIFE
1) Who needs help?
Someone whose life is in danger, maybe a child just born.
2) Why you?
Who else? You think someone else will help. Yes, often there are others, but not enough. Without blood there is no life, and you cannot buy blood at a pharmacy.
3) When is transfusion needed?
During operation, complications at childbirth, when a ventricular ulcer perforates, after a car accident...
4) Is it safe to donate?
Absolutely, everything is sterile, the equipment is used only by you.
5) Will you ever need transfusion?
One out of 4 persons will need a transfusion. Meaning today you give to someone, tomorrow maybe someone will give to you.
6) What do you get by donating?
Medical examination and knowledge about what blood type you have.
7) Who can donate blood?
Every healthy person between 18-65 years of age
8) How often can you donate?
Male donors every 3 months, female every 4 months.
9) What's the procedure? (*this may vary)
First: You fill in a form and go through medical examination - it won't last long
Second: You give blood - lasts about 5 minutes
Third: You know that you have saved someone's life- lasts forever
10) How to behave at donation?
Before donation: no special preparation is required
During donation: relax, it's completely safe
After donation: nothing special, drink some juice, tea or water...
The above is the translation of the flyer we work with at the Department of Transfusion Medicine.
Best wishes, trickybilly
