Use Ms paint if you don't like customization grids, LAYERS, transparencies, color adjustment, grid based selections or onion skin for animating character sprites.
1.what is a customization grid and why would i need it (do you just mean a grid? or is a customization grid different?)
2.why would i need layers
3.if i really needed transparency or color adjustment in an image i would just open up game makers image editor and draw in that
4.what is a grid based selection and why would i need it
5.why would i need onion skin when i could just paste the previous frame of a sprite next to my sprite and work off of that

Why would I do a thing when I COULD do it the infinitely harder way?

implying I cared even a little bit
why don'tcha do mine mr. hotshot and see how long THAT takes.

I also don't really believe that the original only took 6 minutes since it would only make the first timestamp after you save it but I'm willing to give you benefit of the doubt

liam, all you've done is post shitty art to try to prove to us that paint is not shitty
you've then went on to shoot down all of our other suggestions just because you don't /need/ the extra functions that they have
kinda like how technically speaking, your body doesn't /need/ vitamins or minerals, they're just useful to have

dude you just made a triangle with lines for eyes
bob ross it ain't

if you want more specifics:
- the orange lines on your floor thing are misaligned
- your clouds are flat
- your tree is flat
- the composition is mostly of "abstract shapes that could be things I guess"
- your use of colour is typical of MSPaint works aka "fluorescent shit"
- your lack of varying line weights makes the whole thing feel flimsy

grass????
look mate you clearly have no idea what you're doing, it's bad, for your own sake it's best that you accept this and move on. I don't normally criticize amateur works like this but when you get all defensive like that you're just bringing it on yourself.

by "flat" I mean "it has no depth", "the illusion of the third dimension has failed", "it looks like something made in MS paint"

"line weight" refers to how thick the lines are. Using only one is a pretty telltale sign of amateur work.

also my tv (i use it as a monitor) is to blame for the colors. they look normal on my tv, but not on other monitors, i even had to change the colors to get them to look right on other screens, and they still look weird on some.

Please move the tip of the triangle at the top away from the very edge of the image. It is creating a tangent.

Wow, this went from 'Is GIMP a good way to edit sprites?' to 'MS Paint sucks, use these other programs' to 'I can make art in MS Paint fast'
Look, opinions are opinions, but you guys are just dissing MS Paint without thinking (though maybe you are, but if you are then it might be best if you included reasons other then 'it sucks' or 'it takes a while' or 'no layers' or w/e) and that doesn't help. Saying 'use these other programs' without explaining why doesn't help, though I have seen people saying GraphicsGale is made for pixel art, and one post about what MS Paint can't do. ONE post. I have taken the liberty of listing the pros and cons of MS Paint (coming from a user who's used it for all of their spriting needs, including tilesets and spritesheets.)
Pros
-------
- Good for pixel sprites
- Simple to use, you can understand it pretty quickly
- Screen isn't cluttered
- You can easily save custom colours, and the RGB editor is easy enough to use
- (Windows 7 and later) Able to make shapes without having to do them yourself, but it doesn't matter when you're working at small levels.
- Easy recolouring system, though the 'brush' is kind of small
- No need to download anything, comes with every version of Windows
- Resizing of sprites, pixels, ect, is easy
Cons
-------
- No layers
- No transparency
- Only goes to 800% zoom
- Brush size is restricted
- No pressure sensitivity, but that doesn't matter when making pixel art/sprites
So that's the list. If you have problems, you're free to state them, but I will say MS Paint is a good pixel art program and I will say that it is the best to use if you don't want to download anything.
(And, if anyone's interested, my current icon was drawn in MS Paint, and took... I don't remember, but I will guess around 10-30 minutes, not counting when I was doing other things.)

Have you considered the possibility that your brother has no idea what he's talking about?
This.

Trust me, I've been using Paint.net for around 3 or some years, and it has NO functionality for tablets.
Either that or your brother's broken his tablet if it just doesn't work, since I have a CHEAPER tablet (Huion) and it still works fine.
If the problem persists, either reinstall the drivers or check it's in the same USB slot as normal (My tablet has a tendency to only work in the USB slot I first installed it in, no idea about the higher "quality" ones)

Also, Gimp's mid decent for editing sprites, but I'd take Paint.NET over it any day, even with the weird-ass update they gave us.
Paint.net is good, trust me. You can kinda make it run like old Paint.net if you turn off anti-aliasing.
