I wonder why there are no timed sections in Cave Story?

You know, with the counter that goes down and you die if it reaches 0, the closest thing to one in Cave Story is Sacred Grounds.

Because then the game would be more difficult than fun?

Or maybe because Pixel didn't want to do so, or maybe the idea just didn't pop up in his mind before he completed the game? o.o

What you're asking is just like asking: "Why is the world round?"
Ans: "Because it was made so."

That didn't help very much, and it is not as dumb as that question.

Actually your answer was there in Metalogz' post. Good games find the line between difficult and fun. Obviously Pixel thought that forcing someone to speedrun in order to progress the game was a bad idea. Thus he created hell for the difficulty aspect and stuck to the "between difficult and fun" line for the rest of the game.

Actually what Metalogz said answered your question perfectly.

Daisuke-san either didn't want to put a timed part in the game or didn't think of putting a timed part in.

I'm going with the first one myself. And the difficult part of the game is hell.

Speaking of what, any mods using such element? Or is it not possible to do with SW?

I don't believe you can make the timer count downwards with mere TSC.

The drowning timer is built into the exe. You can't trigger it with TSC, change the amount of time on it, or make it appear without being underwater with anything short of assembly.

Think before posting.

Please.

Lace =D

EDIT: First page on the post!!! Whooooooo!!!!!!!!! :p

Well I'm sorry if you mis-interpreted my post but I was just stating there was a countdown timer in the game. Of course it isn't editable, but is the closest thing other than the count timer in Hell.

I guess you could just accuse me of stating the obvious. :o

(Irony in your hypocrisy! Ahem.. yes... now we're even. :D
...Unless you mean first post on the second page and I would be made a fool but that would still be confusing...)

And now, back to the main point of the topic.

I guess the answer is that Pixel wanted a game that anyone could beat. That is all.

You're not the first post on the page, unless you're using 10 posts per page.

And what forum nib uses 10 posts per page? =P

People too lazy to change the option?

Eh, I think 10 posts per page suits the activity level of this forum. It's comfortable.

I'm on 20 a page. 10 per is what uncomfy to me, personal preference.

And why don't anybody use the drown-timer of however long as the countdown timer? Or is it only triggered inside water? And Shmitz somehow did it as the hopefully unofficial route to EC, although it feels short.

EC?

And yes, it's only triggered in water tiles.

Either Pixel didn't get what he wanted or there's a shitload of n00bs running around this place.

Egg Corridor. In Jenka's Nightmare you can just about manage to get through the water and reach the place if you're l33t enough.

I'm 1337 enough! :o once

I guess beating the game can range from Hell to just Outer Wall, depending on how nooby one could be that he doesn't even realize he's doing it wrong.

What's wrong with adding this little difficulty for something.... bonus-ish? Like you wade through the water shit to get a 2.0. But no save points at the jetpack chest and you have to rewade shit. Double difficult?
