How would you make the player be a different, larger creature?

I was going to make a mod where you play as a larger thing than quote. (E.g. Balrog, Ballos, although i dont see why) i have thought of ways to do this, but when i test it, it bugs up. anyone want to help?

I'm pretty sure this would require assembly hacking, since the game is coded to read mychar.pbm files as quote-sized sprites. It's nothing you could accomplish in a regular editor.

@immortalshippo

I heard people trying to solve this, but I don`t know about a solution. Next time I suggest you post modding discussion somewhere here
http://www.cavestory.org/forums/forums/29/
and similar places, because this section is for presenting mods only.

Yeah, you kinda posted in the wrong section...
Anyway, this was dicussed before here.
Basically you're going to have to rewrite a very large amount of the code if you're going to have a character that's larger than 16x16, because beside just getting the game to render a, say, 32x32 sprite, you still need to make the game realize it's a 32x32 object now, instead of a 16x16.
There's just not a way around the massive amount of work required to do this....

That is what the hit box data is for is it not? SP may know where the framerect and hit box data for the mychar sprites are located.

Well, changing the character's hitbox and rect is trivial. The problem is that you're now twice as big, so you cannot manouever as well, can't fit into small spaces, etc. It would make map design more difficult. And there are probably other consequences I'm not remembering right now. It's the whole "chain reaction" thing.

Is it possible to make it that your character has a bigger sprite? No hitboxes or anything, just the sprite.

Uh, yes.
Player frames, just like any other frames. Haven't got down where they are but they probably aren't too hard to find. But, of course, having a sprite that doesn't match its hitbox isn't exactly a good idea.

Unless you mod it to where it makes sense.
I.E. Playing as a hollow fuzzcore, things SHOULD only hit you in the core, right?
Still would be hard, though.

Yes it would be strange. I haven't seen a mod that's done this either.
