I have it, got it recently via homebrewing both my DSI and my 3DS, dumped the DSI ROM off my 3DS did some modifications to the dump and threw it on my SD card so I can play cave story DSI on a DSI.

I bought it on the DSi Shop approximately a million years ago and it was the first way I experienced Cave Story; nowadays I think it's the worst way to play it though

Best way if you don't wanna deal with the several challenge stages or Cave Story, but with even more dialogue. It only lies second to playing vanilla.

Along with the Wii version.
You can still get the wii version if you have wii points, but it’s also a lot easier to emulate the Wii version.

Its also the rarest version
i think thats the only reason anyone even has remote interest in it too.

I've played it and it just is the boneless 3ds version with worse sound quality.

I have it still, and have a bunch of nostalgia for it, as it was the first version in which I beat the game. I love it to death and am really glad to still have it.

Honestly, Cave Story DSi is my preferred way to play Cave Story on my 3DS. I don't need to say much about Cave Story 3D to explain why it's not my favorite of the handheld versions; there are a plethora of issues the game has, and even putting the price aside, it's definitely among my least favorite iterations of the game. Cave Story 3DS eShop sounds like it should be the definitive version, and it is pretty good, but I take issue with the camera. Cave Story DSi does this really nice thing to account for the smaller screen, in that it zooms you in a bit more so everything is more easily visible. I've never had an issue with the screen crunch, so I'll take that over the 3DS eShop's microscopic sprite sizes. Plus, a really underrated feature in the DSi version is the Sanctuary speedrun mode. Unlike the versions seen in other games, this mode allows you to restart from the beginning of the level instead of making you pick out your equipment every time you lose, which is a HUGE upside in my eyes.

Cave Story DSi may seem like a pointless game with all of the other versions of the game that exist, but I think the subtle differences between the other portable versions (Switch version notwithstanding) puts it at the top of my list of portable Cave Story ports I'd prefer to pick up again. I'm quite glad that I bought it when I did.

Really? I never noticed the 3ds being too zoomed out.

False, got it 7 years after it release.
Also what was the point of remaking a cave story port with the original stuff when
-You had a more interesting and much more worth the 7.35 € port and that was also worth buying for what it proposes.
-You could have just uploaded you’re dsi version in the dsi categorie for the one that wanted too play the original version.
And also, why do I feel like subject for aa thread reset themselves?
(I should stop talking about nicalis like if I really talk to someone.)

Cave story dsi wasn't that good. Unless you're for some reason not talking about the dsi version.

3ds version was the better one. Dsi was the boneless diet Coke 3ds version imo.

Oh, uh couldn’t they made a patch to fix it?
Actually, remaking the entire game with all the graphics and sound effects ready seem a much better idea...
Oh well I’ll still be curious around this port.

Yeah but the dsi version isn’t on the eshop anymore so it gets extra rarity points

The DsiWare port was the best imo, if you wanna just bother with the main game itself (and the Jukebox because fuck yeah, music)

Also, Diet Coke definitely didn't come before regular Coke, so it can't really be compared to the eShop version. It's no contest at all, so ofc the eShop port looks better. Besides, why play the eShop version when there's the Wii and Switch ports and CS+? :^)
