Hey guys,

I realise there is a way of changing the font Doukutsu uses in-game under Windows, but what I'm interested in is hacking out the font the game uses in the Mac port, and the various other ports.

Investigating the application bundle, I can't find any resources that look like the obvious culprit, and the game doesn't appear to use any system fonts, so I'm guessing that font is somehow baked into the main binary.

After searching the forums and trying numerous search terms in Google, I can't find any answers, has anyone here managed to obtain this font, or maybe point me in the right direction?

:p

Lowell displays his impressive knowledge on Macs

Are you sure it doesn't use a system font?
The one for Windows does, simply running DoConfig shows it uses Courier New.
Can't imagine why that'd be different for Mac, but *Shrugs*

Absolutely, here's an screenshot of the Mac port:

This doesn't match any system font on the Mac, it appears to be the same deal for the PSP port, and I'm guessing for the linux port too.

Would be fun to use this font on the forums.

Which is non-existent

Sorry, I have no idea then, specially since I wouldn't know how to dig around on the Mac port...
You could always take screenshots and copy/paste the letters out until you can put them together in all of one font, though.
Time consuming, but pretty easy to do. Specially since it seems trying to find the font might even take more effort/time...
Otherwise it looks like what you typically get when you draw letters in pixels, to me...

Courier New?
This is the original font.

To be honest I could never work out why the Windows version didn't use the same typeset as the Mac, I always thought the pixel-font suited the game far better than the lousy courier font (yes, I know you can change it, but still).

Are you *sure* it's not a sytem font? I got these by turning of AntiAliasing and shrinking font size to 8 or 6

The top one's Courier New and the other two are some random fonts I happened to have. The style of the 'a' was very uncommon, but since I don't actually have Mac fonts I couldn't know for sure what it uses.

I'm 90% sure, the font used in the game appears to be fixed width, so that narrows it down to Andale Mono, Courier, Courier New, Menlo, and Monaco on the Mac. I've tried each of these at the approximate pixel size with ant-aliasing off and none of them match. I've even tried the usual san-serifs, such as Helvetica, Helvetica Neue, Verdana, and Ariel, and still no luck.

I don't use Macs often, but I'm pretty sure it is a system font, I recognize it from like the first Mac ever.

Some Googling suggests it's a "bitmapped" version of Monaco. It looks like it matches the picture of "Monaco 9" shown here.

Edit: See also brief font samples at Wikipedia's Fonts of the original Macintosh that confirm my memory.

It's close, but it's not an exact match, for instance the lower case 'l' is different.
