I tried your new mod out. So far it is amazing I love everything (especially the music). I haven't finished yet, but I did notice you can completly skip the first boss battle.
A problem: beat 1st boss, got jetpack, and the door up the top right corner would not open untill I seved again in the room before and died.
Other then that you can also fall out of the map by getting the jetpack and going to the far left of the cave-place and jumping over the blocks.

Alright, fixed (in v0.1.6.3) the first cave map and the blocks in the boss room. I just forgot a piece of code. :F Silly me.
Thanks for catching that!
And yes, it will be very different... I like different. :3 The story will solidify as the game goes however; you won't be in the dark the whole time.
EDIT: v0.1.8.0 is out. More adjustments and a bugfix.
Oh hey a thing. Pretty swish too No bugs to report, aside from maybe a couple of slightly choppy scene transitions (e.g. right near the start where you "fly" down to the grass). The Sniper weapon is a nice changeup but it's kind of too strong - it would be neat if you could actually make a weapon that does fairly high damage per hit but with a slow firing rate. Otherwise, really nice so far! The new musics were a pleasant touch, I know I heard FF8 in there. I'll have to check out your Orgs at some point, along with everyone else's I've been neglecting >_>
Do you want the thread title changed? I can't remember if regular users can do that or not

Thank you very much! Yes, the Bunny Town uses my Organya remake of "Fragments of Memories" from FF8. I might make some remixes of my favourite Final Fantasy songs in the future for the mod.
Oh, and yes, I would greatly appreciate a thread name change.
The sniper comment actually leads into this now-related note:
The mod is currently on hold, because I'm waiting for my artist friend to finish her project on something else. When she is available, I will be implementing a lot of new graphics into the game. Also, I will either be learning much more assembly or recruiting an assembly hacker to completely revamp the weapons we have grown to love from Cave Story. I'm not sure how possible it is yet, but I'm yearning for weapons that use bullet acceleration, inverted gravity, and possibly exaggerated bouncing properties.
I've played it and I like it! Nice work. With the sun if you are using paint you may want to use the brush tool rather than the pencil tool because it automatically does softer edges. With the sniper rifle because it shoots so fast sometimes it can shoot through walls. It's nothing major but I just thought that I would let you know. Also chie and chaco have transparent eyes. Have you set there eyes to black? Other than that it's freaking awesome!
Okay, game play wise this mod isn't all that bad, but visually it bugs me. You seem to only use the bare neccesityies when building your maps, without much decor or non solid tiles other than those that go with the rocks. It's one thing I see in aloy of mods that REALLY bugs me. Now, then, the map design does still need a bit more touching up to keep things interesting, but I still had a fun time playing this. Keep on truckin!
I think that I haven't tried enough of these new mods, so I'll start with this one.
Good points:
-The music is great. I also like the fact that you included the OrgView. Can you change it so that the actual song names are shown instead of the CS song names?
-The sniper is a nice touch. It seems a bit too strong but it certainly prevents the "I'm going to have this weakling weapon for the whole mod" feeling that some other showcase items have.
-The name of the mod is a good choice. Possibly because I know a person named Ethel, but anyway back to the main point...
-Humor in the ashes. Very nice.
Points for improvement:
-For the first boss, maybe have some sort of explosion or sound effect at the end?
-Shouldn't a collapsed door actually look collapsed?
-Some doors in Bunny town stop functioning after you interact with them? Maybe?

I'd have to disagree with you completely, Matt. In many mods, the maps are somewhat complicated. There are decorations and such.
In fact, too many tiles of different variety, if not used properly, create a haphazard map. However, when put together correctly, they can be very effective.
Anyway - part of what makes this mod nice is that the maps are indeed so simple. There is a good feeling that comes out of clean and crisp map design,
and Etheria certainly has that.

Well it's just my opinion that more tiles, "tile 40" would have improved the look of the mod. I love playing it, but that's just a thing that bothers me. If you think mods without them look more crisp that's fine with me.

Thanks for the input! The sniper rifle will most likely be changed in the future, yes. Once more assembly hacking gets going, I'll totally change what the first weapon is, most likely.

Thanks for the response, CL. I will change the OrgView text once I implement all the music that I want to into it. As for the sniper, I will most likely be changing it in the future, as I stated above. The sound effect is a good idea; I'll be sure to put that in. The collapsed look is something I'll put in once I get art I'm satisfied with. xD (I hate my own art.) As for the doors, it's just a matter of the tileset, sadly enough. The tileset that I so wanted only had doors that are actually made of two spots. Because of this, I made two events in each spot that do the same thing, but if you are right smack dab in between them, it doesn't work. I will probably have to change the tiles later on.
The maps... I will probably spice them up later on, but my main focus is on the storyline. The biggest thing I want to accomplish here is to tell a tale that really sets itself apart from others. To aid in this goal, I will refrain from making the game too hard. I want it fairly simple so that the players won't have to, more or less, get frustrated over the battles, but rather, enjoy the story that they are progressing through. I might make a bonus level similar to Hell though, to satisfy those who yearn for a challenge. o:

Now to address you, Matt. Thank you very much for speaking your opinion. I absolutely agree with you. The end result of this game, at least what I plan, will feature a rich, unpredictable environment. The graphics, in every aspect, will have a lot of time devoted to them, because I really want the players to get that sense that they are traversing in a completely different world, apart from Cave Story. The only reason I haven't started to do so yet is because I'm waiting on my artist. I am a perfectionist, and I hate almost everything that I try to draw. I just don't have the ability to accomplish what I want to be done for this mod, and I am more than impressed with my friend's abilities, so it works out well. Ultimately, I hope to satisfy all of your graphical needs, and then some.
