Disabling the music?

Is there a way to disable the music in Cave Story?

I'd like to play it while playing my own music, but also still hear the sound effects.

Using the volume controls effects the entire PC, so I won't be able to hear anything if I turn those down.

I was thinking if there are music files in the folders, I could rename or move them but I don't know which are the music files.

It's not that I really dislike the music, I just don't want to hear it during my play of it.

I don't think there's really an option for it, but someone can resource hack it to not have music, if that will help. (I'll do it if no one else wants to)

No, just screw up the menu with a hex editor and then disable all channels.

Change the bytes at the following offsets in the EXE to FF:

$12D50
$12D51
$12D89

So find a hex editor, select the exe and then change those groups of numbers/letters to all Fs or just FF or?

Is this the same as resource editing?

That would be pretty handy, i'm not entirely sure what to do. You're very kind!

You could publish it as a No Music Mod or something

Alright, I figured out what you were talking about and did that, which enabled new menus in the game.

I muted EVERY channel, but there is still some bass-y music.

Yep, I liked it much :3

Actually, it's not recourse hacking, but maybe there is a way you could screw the music when changing some offsets in the exe :x

LISTEN TO THE EASIEST WAY OUT. BEST SOULUTION EVAR MAN. ITS A SONG TOO LOL

Heres a plan,
Listen to the steps.
First you turn off your speakers,
And then you grab your radio!
Slot your song disc in and press the goddamned Play,
Then you just sit back, and think how easy that was.

OMG YOU"RE THE LAMEST GUY I EVer SEEN!

YOu know, if you open Cave Story, and Alt+Tab out of it (if its in full screen), go to the Volume Mixer and mute the Cave Story volume. The rest would be uneffected.

now THATS the "BEST SOULUTION EVAR MAN. ITS A SONG TOO LOL".

:D

I think that's the point, the sfx and low-bass share the same sound channel.

Yeah, all you can do is taking the "low bass" out of the exe.

I dont' know much about hacking but is that possible? I wouldn't mind a musicless Cave Story myself...
