DEMO: Maze Story

Have fun. The first Cave looks like that on purpose. The demo ends in Mimiga Village.

Despite this not sounding too great judging from the use of "First Cave" and "Mimiga Village", I decided to give this a go.

Firstly, you didn't put all the files into a single folder before putting it into the .zip file. Please do.

Secondly, it doesn't start in 640 x 480 by default. Please do.

By the term "unknown force", do you actually mean you stopped giving a shit?

 

It's supposed to be a sequel to Cave Story (That explains the Toaster hole) in which an unknown force is destroying the universe. Quote has amnesia. The reason Jack is dead is because the unknown force destroyed parts of his brain. The First Cave is supposed to look like that. More will be explained in the full mod.

I don't care how intentionally shitty First Cave is supposed to look. I can guarantee that at least 90% of the people who play this mod will drop it upon witnessing that atrocity of a map.

The mod is now contained in a folder, but you can surely come up with a better name than "New Folder"

The mod still opens in fullscreen by default, not 640 x 480.

You need to take a short break from continuing the mod and figure out how to properly design a map. This is just sad to watch.

 

Alright, here are my thoughts as I played:

Here we go:

1. Vanilla title screen and intro sequence. How original.
2. Generic start of game with basically a broken-looking "Kazuma on PC" room... the tiling here is really ugly to look at.
3. No period at the end of "Something isn't right".
4. Some weird glitchy and ugly looking tiling... fun.
5. HOLY CRAP HE HUNG HIMSELF I WAS NOT PREPARED. Moving on...
6. Get the Polar Star.... same Kazuma, same.
7. The Mimiga Village dialogue is rather dull and too close to vanilla for my taste.

So basically, this is vanilla Cave Story with some edits. Also, how does Kazuma know who Quote is? Because King and Toroko are still alive, which means this must take place before the events of the vanilla Cave Story. Unless this is some weird alternative timeline with timetravelling Kazuma...

 

Basically; it takes place in a messed up CS timeline where Toroko and King are still alive, and quote saved the island but Curly died.

And how exactly was the player supposed to figure any of that out?
