somehow, palpatine CS+ steam has returned with an update that backports switch content(!) and adds modding support(!!!); notably converting a lot of formerly hardcoded/internal values to .json tables as well as lua API implementation
at the moment, it's a 'private' beta - a bunch of the features mentioned in the official steam announcement aren't actually implemented (notably no workshop support or the mentioned 'custom BL fork') - but it's still pretty cool, and interesting to explore... supposedly, according to tyrone's messages in the CS discord server it'll be 'going public' on monday, and there was mention of an official email to be established for bug reports, so we'll have to wait and see what comes out of that :]
if you're interested in testing it yourself:
1. right click 'Cave Story+'
2. open 'Properties' > Game Versions & Betas
3. enter 'ModPizzaParty' into the 'Private Versions' field
4. select the 'ModdersDelight' branch and it should begin to download
so far i've found a bunch of weird and wacky internal file structure changes, although the only thing of major interest (for those who haven't spent the last bunch of years documenting the internal shenanigans of the various CS ports, at any rate) is that there seems to be support for multiple languages set up - i don't expect this to be confirmation of official translations, outside of maaaaaaybe korean as that was officially released for the eshop, but it may be set up for fan translations to be ported/created
