I classified all the waves to be used for pitched instruments by how they sound.

Wave shapes are not enough to classify its sound, because there are instances one wave might sound similar to another, but they have different wave shapes.

Here's what I have done. Feel free to hear all the waves for yourself, and see if you can classify them better than I did.

The reason why I based some categories into their wave shapes is because I think those wave shapes could actually do other purposes.

For example, you can use triangles or square waves approx. as amped guitars, or sine waves as whistles.

The "Organ" category is more likely a drawbar than any other type of organ.

BTW It is pretty hard to further classify "Bright" sounds. It is for the reason that they are somewhat distinct from each other, but the fact that they sound "metallic" or "glitchy" (either way on how you say it, but bottom line is they employ numerous higher harmonics) makes them all be grouped into a single category.

That's understandable. The only thing I'd change if I were you is separate the "'Guitars' / 'Trumpets'" section into two different ones, as I've felt those are two separate types, and deserve their own sections.

I guess as for the rest of these, I haven't tested these all out myself to see how much of it I agree with, so perhaps some people should give feedback on whether or not wav XX really should go in (insert category name here), so that this will be more helpful and accurate, and not just based off one person's ears.

Anyway, if this can get revised a bit, I think this thread should be stickied.

EDIT: 550th post! All this forum are belong to me!

Of course, I can't really base it my own discretion, so I'm really encouraging people to hear them for themselves and have an arbitrary classification for each of the waves in the pitched section.

I'll give a try on re-classifying the sounds under the Guitars/Trumpets section.

Bump.

It gets to my mind that some sounds resemble some instrument whenever they are morphed with one or more of the wave sounds, or whenever an amplitude envelope/panning modulation is applied. Help is much appreciated for those who would like to check it out and tell.
