And futuristic insight would tell you science is likely to engage robot sex-workers, so I don't think it's any more far-fetched than rabbits being demonised by red-coloured flowers.

Pixel didn't add that to tell us what they did. He added it to let our imaginations run amok and assume the first thing that comes to our minds. Not necessary that it's true. If you ask me, that scene was just an extra and should not affect our perception of the involved characters or the storyline. I'd rate it to be as important to the story as bloopers.
