Cave Story = Mario?

Think about it.

DIfferent areas? (Different worlds)

After contemplating this for a while, I came to the conclusion that Mario is Cave Story. But that is just my personal opinion.

 

A lot of games are like that. The goal of saving someone is such a common theme it's not even funny. It's not just Mario.

And it has different worlds? Most games do. What fun would be in a game with no different areas? And are all those games with different areas Mario? Uh, no.

Long story short, your theory is pretty silly. Sorry. :I

 

Hehe, there are a few similarities, but, no. They're barely similar enough to trick a mom into maybe thinking Cave Story is a Mario game,
but anything more than a few seconds of observation will start to reveal it's quite different. The reason I used a mom as an analogy and a few seconds of observation is because once when I was playing Cave Story and my mom walked by she said, "So is that... Mario?".

Braid is also a lot like Mario. He's just in a business suit and dyed his hair orange.

they are pretty much the same game

 

Nah. I think the similarities to Metroid (exploration, getting tools to reach new areas) are much stronger. Even the life capsule acquiring sound effect is eerily reminiscent, IMHO.

Mushrooms with eyes? Yup.
Stuff dealing damage on contact? Yup.
Great amount of creativity? Yup.
Fireballs affected by gravity? Pretty obvious.
Blonde chick that you have to save? Yup.
Spikes? Yup.
Big grey rectangle thingies that fall on you? Yup.
Underground areas? Well DUH!

Really, the most noticeable difference is that Cave Story takes place in a much darker universe and has a much more depressing story to it.

 

But does Mario acquire a Missile Launcher? A Machine Gun? A high energy Lazor of Death? Nope

Does Mario have a jetpack? Nope.
Is Mario a robot? We will never know...
