Hello. I'm currently trying to make a mod of Cave Story, and I could use some help with it. I'm good at design of levels, but I can't program NPCs. I've made them, but they're just a sprite. I can't make them say anything, do anything, or even have any significance. I'm looking for someone who can help me out with the NPC programming. I currently do not have a final name for this mod, either, or even much programming skills at anything, but I can create a storyline, characters, and levels. I just need someone to help make this a reality. If you can help me, message me. Thanks.

If you don't mind me asking... how can it not open .zip files?

Like... does WinRAR not ... work on your computer or something? Surely there's something you can get that will work for you.

Maybe you should invest in some minor computer skills before taking on a project like this because being able to open and create compressed archives is kind of necessary to transfer (upload) any mod? Also pretty sure windows explorer in.. At least vista? Maybe XP? can open zips, it's the most common compression format for windows users. At the very least get 7zip and not have to worry about archives ever again.

2. Sue's Workshop is old rubbish don't use that

5. I'm not saying nobody is going to help you, but there is nobody to do it for you.

That's just the thing. Trouble is, My computer doesn't HAVE winRAR, Winzip, 7zip or ANYTHING to do it with, and I don't generally trust free download sites, with a few exceptions. It CAN do .exe files, though.

I know. As Malcolm Reynolds once said:
"I ain't looking for a ride. Just a little push is all."

Also, Sue's Workshop is all I really have to work with. I've been trying to edit the in-game script, but I'm not having any luck with it.

I like how you don't trust winRAR or 7zip yet you'll download executables willy-nilly.

I was thinking I'd take care of that when the mod was completed, and as for the multi-quote, I've actually never used it before in my life. Nobody has ever complained, really.

Actually, it's not that simple. I don't trust the sites one downloads it from, because I had an experience in the past where I downloaded software like that, (I think you see where this is going....) and as it would turn out, I got a virus from it. A virus that cost me a perfectly good laptop. I got a new one, though. I'm just very careful about the software I download now. I want to re-check EVERYTHING. Also, what I DO download isn't, as you put it, "willy-nilly." It's after I check it out thoroughly and some software might not even get to that point. If I distrust the site it's from AT ALL, I don't download it. Also, Sorry about double posting this time, Noxid, I'm still trying to get the multi-quote thing figured out.

If I told you that 7zip or anything else on SourceForge doesn't have any malware and/or viruses would you go download it.
Mostly because this thread is starting to give me pain.

Why would you distrust a download site just because you got a virus once
The site can't stop viruses

Idoit
It's not about which site, so much as I'm being extremely careful. Maybe paranoid, but I am NOT taking any chances. And thank you very much for calling me an idiot. An insult to my intellect is EXACTLY what I needed to make me feel better on a day like this one.

Instead of being a paranoid idoit, try checking the legitimacy of stuff you download and assessing the website you download it from. If you are downloading a program that everyone on the entire internet uses, from a website that everyone on the entire internet uses, it's probably not full of viruses. If you're downloading keygen_not_a_virus.torrent from 1 seed, maybe you shouldn't.

Just to check for you, I downloaded 7zip five times and rubbed my antivirus on it. It did not hack my gigabytes and/or call the cyberpolice on me.

And why would you download Sue's Workshop, that could have easily been 400,000 viruses according to your logic. Your logic which is stupid, because viruses are .exe files and having them in a .zip file first will reduce the chances of something bad happening. If you're not an idoit.

Last and not least, get an acutally good antivirus program.

I didn't download Sue's Workshop, it came with the game. For heaven's sake, could you people just stop insulting me! This is by far the worst forum site I've ever been on because of the ALMOST COMPLETE lack of, gee, I don't know, actually CIVIL users. You guys are just jerks. I didn't sign up to be your emotional punching bag. I HAVE FEELINGS!

Okay sorry I'd been pretty angry for the past while, I kind of vented my anger at you.
I think a better method of doing things would be checking if the file itself is a virus, rather than if the site might have one. Most files, after all, are safe. And if you download an antivirus program like AVG, you'll generally be pretty well off.

Alright. I forgive you. I'm just kind of irate today myself, but mainly because of the heat. I'll be sure to check out the files themselves. McAfee's good enough antivirus, would you say?

for realz guys, please be a little less mean to the kid
It's not his fault, my parents were exactly the same way. It made using the computer very difficult, and it's the reason I didn't have an IM client until I was like 18 (MSN gives you viruses)

Actually, this isn't my parents' computer anymore, but either way, I'm being VERY cautious about these things. I just don't want to end up in the same situation with this computer as I ended up in with my last one. It IS probably paranoid, though, as it has been pointed out by the supposedly 69 year old Captain Fabulous. I can easily forgive everyone. I guess I just happened to join on a bad day.

I was paranoid about downloading random stuff myself for a while. A while back, my brother kept downloading Game Make games and eventually caused a virus. After we got a new computer, me and him were forbidden from downloading any Game Maker games, and were always very cautious about downloading anything. That was... Until my brother discovered Sandboxie.
