• Hey everyone happy Christmas Eve we're aware of what's happened with the source code so to keep this simple absolutely don't post it on the site or use it to make mods with (it's not particularly preferable toward this end anyway) and tread lightly in general until we see how this settles, thanks to all and have a great holiday season -DT

Hello all! I think this is the best place to post what I spent my day writing, so here it goes.

It's basically a compilation of all BETA information released up to this date. I checked the interviews and a lot of posts from Pixel's BBS, as well the game's folders and some other places to gather the info.

Linky

If you have any sugestion/correction or know something I don't, feel free to tell me!

This is pretty well made. Great work!

Hey, I bet the final boss of the beta was a GIANT Balrog that shot beams out his mouth and could make blocks fall from the ceiling. Wouldn't that be something eh? :)

Yeah, and the cloud thing could be morphed in somehow.

Strangely enough, I can see that happening.

Very well composed. I actually haven't seen some of the pictures before. I did enjoy the Giant Barlog at the end, with the falling blocks and the finite ammo.
Also,
Minor enemies looked like small versions of Puu, and were called "Soa" (which comes from "SOAP").
That probably explains all of the bubbles...

Oh, just something I noticed now, you spelled objective "objetive". Sorry for being such a fussbudget about it.:o

A very nice compilation. I always wanted to learn more about the beta-game, I just didn't know where (/was too lazy) to look.

This is well-made work. Nice job on the website. Though I prefer XHTML, I feel your plight.

The CS beta seems to get more interesting every time I see more screenshots of it. Too bad it's not exactly available for public consumption - how many bugs could there possibly have been?

I almost wish that Pixel would release a version of it as his next game.

Yes. That would be cool.

Although he does state (if memory serves) that the beta version had many, many bugs so he wasn't interested in a public release.

I meant that as in "if as his next project he wen't back and fixed them."

Maybe the bugs were so serious that it was infeasible to fix them except by rewriting most of the game, which he did.

You know too much, it's because:
a) You have the game
b) You are Pixel
c) I am a conspiracy theorist
d) I am joking

NICE COLLECTION, WELL DONE

Okay, I know this is a longshot, but I've posted this on Pixel's bulletin board on his official website:

"The more I read about the beta version of Cave Story, the more fascinated I am by it. It was an entirely different game, and it's a shame to see it not released. I realize you have said in the past that you don't want to release it because it is too glitchy. As an indie game designer myself, I want to help fix that. Many of your fans know computer code. I want to develop a project to remove all the bugs from Cave Story BETA. You will, of course, be given full credit. If that is okay, could you please email a copy of it to this email address (please prevent this email address from being read publicly): [my email address]"

My chances are slim, I know, but if he agrees, I honestly believe we could pull this off.

I really hope you don't think you're the first person to ever appeal to him to release it.

He didn't like it because the design itself was fundamentally flawed; He simply didn't think it was fun to play, that the puzzles were poorly made. So he started over. The glitches weren't game-breaking. Clearly it was playable, if you could get all the way to the final boss. He won't release it because he doesn't want to and he never will.

Oh also he can't read english very well so that's an awful lot of words to throw at him.

First of all, I blatantly said in the message that I knew that someone else had asked before, but he said it was too glitchy, which is why I thought there was a small chance that he would allow the fans to fix the glitches. And I realized that that was a long message, but I needed to make sure I clarified some things and it was hard to condense it very much.
