Looks like it, yeah.
If nothing else, it's a good indicator of the validity of a player's score/time, at least to some extent.

I improved on my score this morning...well, yesterday morning, now, since it's past midnight. 1'42"90. cat's getting pretty close, but that's okay.

Pretty close to my target! I've been practicing in short, nonstop bursts when I got the chance. I think we can all declare the Time Runner That One Boss, because oh my god. It's terrible and essentially makes or breaks a time. :<

Dark Tentacle Blob isn't much better, with the luck needed for its animation to last long enough. But if I can just jump onto the Time Runner flawlessly, and then survive its stupid hop without falling, I have a good shot at getting a pretty great score. I've never had even the chance of being good at any games the way other people are capable of being - if I want to get a competitive score at one thing, it's Kero Blaster that's my best shot. >:3

I know I don't have a good chance of ever replacing either of the top two in the High Scores section here, but I want to be at least 3rd, and one of few representatives of the iOS version. That's good enough for me, if I make it. -w-

I found a much better way to do stage 5's boss (even better than the 1'24"80 guy).

I think I can beat his time. But it's going to take a lot of work. I'll have to keep practicing throughout the week so I can do it.

Hold the jump key going into the battle. You fall slower if you hold the jump key.

Even then it requires somewhat-tricky timing, but definitely possible.

I think it's based on how many times you've beaten your own personal record (set a new "Best time") rather than the actual time you get, since on a different copy I did a run where I skipped to boss 8 for practice and got a time of 30 seconds and most of the sprites weren't there.

yeah its not much, but i had a run a few days ago that was over 1 sec ahead going into the final boss but i got trolled by him hard and didn't get the 4 round :/

Yeah, like cave story this game has scripts that can be modified (and these ones are plaintext, even). That's why I said it's "A totally 100% legit time.". Because it's not.

I tried to mod it so I could finish with 0'00"00, but the game wouldn't register that time as an actual score, for some reason.
