Oh come on...

I swapped them all back to PBMs, successfully, {But hit a snag where it, for some reason, made copies of two NPC files that were in crappy black and white, and the EXE didn't want to run until I found the original ones and renamed them myself..} and wanna guess what happens?

No change >.>;

But at least my data file got slightly smaller =D

Oh yeah!
What makes me really angry is that I can't figure out what's wrong, it's just so random.....But I'll keep trying, and hopefully get the rooms that really need backgrounds working, but the rest will be stuck with blah black and blue backgrounds >.>
Thanks for the help, anyways....
And what's with the "Oh yeah!"?

EDIT: Oh boy, another level up? Better then the coffee thing....

Oh yeah, uh, try re-sizing your backgrounds.
They have to be a H and W in a multiple of 16 pixels.
Anywho, DB out.

...These are the original backgrounds, and have a height and width of 64 pixels (16 times 4).....

Ergh, please don't post next to eachother, you two.
I'm getting a bad case of the Christmas shananagans.

on a related note (to the topic)
try replacing your entire data folder.
I wanna see what happens o.o

I'm having my doubts if it's the data files at fault, since the original levels and one of mine work with backgrounds, but I'll try anyway....{after backing up, of course.}

You appear to be having severe issues with this problem. I have 2 recommendations:

1) Uploading the mod in it's current state: I would love to help, but things would probably go faster if I had a copy of the mod so far. But before you consider this option, you might want to look at option 2.

2) Replace the doukutsu.exe. Now, at first this may seem like a big loss, but in reality all you would be losing is map settings and such. The maps themselves are stored in the data, along with scripts and sprites (I'm sure you know that already). Unless you've done MAJOR assembly hax or imported an org that you no longer have (you could just extract the org if needed tho), this may fix your problem. You can keep the old executable, but just first try a new doukutsu.exe. Solves some of the issues I have when modding, mostly when I just accidently make CE glitch tho.

On a side note, I really recommend sticking with .pbm's for your files. If you need to save a .bmp as a .pbm, it should be as simple as going to "Save as" in mspaint and then changing the extension to .pbm. Or you could do it manually outside of mspaint, but that could become a chore if you had to edit a sheet multiple times.

Now, to go nail some riffs on the guitar (working on eyes of flame atm btw)....

Right....

Well, replacing the data file didn't do anything {Except for some hilarious cutscenes, since the faces were replaced and the ones I made were kinda randomly placed all over the file [to cover chars that won't appear in the mod]}
I'll probably try to avoid option 1 unless I'm completely out of options....so I guess I'll go try replacing the EXE...
...I think I try that though {of course I'd forget if I did or not...}, but trying again never hurt....

EDIT: Hmm, maybe the rooms have to be a certain size? As to match the Factors of 16 height and width of the backgrounds? {Just guessing...}

RE-EDIT: No wait, that doesn't explain the copies... -.-"

EDIT: Ugh! Cave Editor REALLY hates adding maps.....is there a certain way to do it....or something...?

-.-"

I finally got the first room to re-work on the replaced EXE, and it's exactly the same, right down to the still-missing background....

I think I'll go back to messing with cameras and such; rather not put the mod up until I'm further, much further....

Thanks for the help, though.

EDIT: You know what? I think this is just down to luck....Same thing kinda happen with several other editor's/mods...
My Halo map {AND the Custom Edition EXE} quit on me after I added music {It was doing so well too, custom AI and weapons...}...
My WCIII Editor likes to randomly crash on me....
This FPS Creator I had worked fine, until I ran the demo of the first level I made and discovered it doesn't like Vista....
And other stuff......but it's just the backgrounds, so nothing serious. Yet.

WOAH HO HO HO..... did you say you were using CaveEditor there o.o?
Not that I discourage you from using that, but.... CE?

OHohohohoh, I think I know what your problem is..... you're trying to add a new map with CE then i take it?

Well I have bad news for you, because CE cannot actually change map settings very well. It cannot change the camera type, and adding a map will just have no BG no matter what you do. If you insist on using CE (like I do), you will have to conform to this fact. The best way around it is to edit the original 94 maps, and use a map that has the camera type you need. TBH, I think I might be making the switch over to SW soon myself for my mod. I use both atm, but by switch I mean edit the executable that gets released with SW. I have a seperate exe for SW right now.

What!?

Well, I couldn't really add any maps, so I ended up just using the copy function and modding them from there....
I got one map that I created with CE to work with a background, but at this rate, I guess I should probably switch....I've been hearing a lot of bad things about CE, but I haven't had any serious problems, until now...
But if I switched, would there be a way to safely get the few rooms I've made over? {At the very least, I could probably copy and paste the scripts...}
And are there any major differences with SW compared to CE? I kinda liked how script writing worked in CE, and I heard SW's wasn't as good...
And then, which SW should I be using..? I've found a 0.A, 0.C, and then one without any extra bits in the name.....

..All this trouble and I've only just begun on the mod....

EDIT: I just noticed something, my second level {Copied from the first level I made, which was copied itself} doesn't have much problems with backgrounds....it was the one to work with the Blue background, and now it's the only one that can't turn slightly blue, like all the other broken ones; it just goes solid black when I try to get it to mimic the others...

RE-EDIT: Wow. I just messed with it some more, and it has no trouble with backgrounds! What. The. Hell?!

Glitchy, that's what. You had no problems with editing the cameras tho? Tell me whatchu did, cuz it could be important. When I copy maps, the bg just goes to black.

You're asking me to remember something? I suck at that >.<
Well, if I remember right...I started with the first room {Kinda duh..}, which was a copy of one of the originals...which one? I can't remember, possibly the Start Point, but I can't be sure...
This was before I knew having the events out of order screwed things up, so I had it play the first cut scene and after it was done, I copied the first room and had the cut scene teleport the player to the copied room {after it was done, of course}, where the game would actually began...
So the second room's pretty much identical to the first one, 'cept for a few entity changes and script rewrites....but it somehow takes to backgrounds better then all the others...{But it won't do scrolling for the Balcony or Outer Wall backgrounds....but it's better then nothing}

I'd like to think that coping a copy somehow fixes the backgrounds, but the other rooms are copies of my copies too.....

I'm going to see if coping it and trying backgrounds with it's copies will work....
Wow this is confusing.

EDIT: On a side note, I have a history of attracting glitches like a magnet...

EDIT: Hmm, well it looks like the second room might have been a fluke...the copy didn't work, but I'ma try coping the first room, since that's how the second room was created..

Yeah, probably a fluke, as coping the first room didn't seem to work either, or coping had nothing to do with it...Hmm....
