This is a bit embarrassing, because it seems like something so simple, but my backgrounds just refuse to show up during the game...{But they'll show up in the editor and can be selected and even edited...}
I've searched the forums, but apparently no one's had this problem before.. >.>
I've tried several backgrounds now, and several different cameras, even used one of the original levels, but the background always comes up as the blank black one...
I'm not sure how long this has gone on, as the first rooms I worked on used the black black, but something tells me it's because I messed with the image files several times. I changed it to accept BMPs early on, and changed several of the files to 24-bit to support the new colours of some of my sprites, so I just thought the backgrounds needed to be saved to the 24-bit too, but it didn't work either...
Any help would be appreciated, that and I don't think any one would like a mod that had a black background the entire time....

On a side note...anyone know the animations for sprite 139 Doctor (Crowned)? The animation list I found only listed the boss pose...and once again thanks for any help...

It's probably too big or something. I had a similar problem when I tried to make a larger background so that it could scroll on for longer than usual and then repeat but basically I think the backgrounds can't be any bigger than 320x240. As for the animations, You can look around the scripts of the original game to find what you need because what you're looking for should have been used somewhere in the original game. What I need to do is to make a giant page of TSC commands, how to edit pbms, replacing music, hacking weapons, hacking npcs and all that stuff except for assembly stuff because I'm not so great at that.

Too big..?

What about the backgrounds I didn't touch? They should still be the same size as the originals, but the game still ignores them....

some backgrounds only show w/ different move speed things.
Which sounds very intelligent, indeed.

Try selecting slow/equal/fixed parallaxes.

But, I even played one of the original levels that I kept for references in the mod and the background still didn't show up...

Ehh...?
I'm going to guess those are the cameras, and changing those didn't fix anything...

Parallax is how the screen moves.

With regards to your issues, maybe it's an exe issue?
I mean, it could be the BMP issue.

That's the problem...

I'm not sure what the problem is....
I started with an original Cave Story EXE, but I guess I can try another clean copy real quick with one of my rooms to see if that's the problem....
But I'm a little lost on the BMPs....I've tried several things so far: loaded the originals, re-saving some as 24-bit, but nothing's worked....

EDIT: There's something....
The original level I ran was copied for a cut-scene, but when I ran an uncopied and untouched level {Mimiga village} the background decided to show up....
Did I forget something vitally important when creating my rooms..? And if so, why did the copied room not work, but the original did...?

EDIT: Hmm....do backgrounds require special entities...or something...? {Can't really tell from the original levels}

Ahhh...

I think I've figured it out....
I was messing with the background Blue {Like in the Mimiga Village}, and I tried the camera for Balcony {scroll fast left} for no real reason, and guess what happened.....{It worked, if you're too lazy to guess}
As much as I'd like to ask why it's working, I'd rather not jinx myself, so I'll just go figure out what camera's Balcony wants now {Probably something random like one of the "hides"...} and move on....
Thanks for the help, though.

But...

Fast scrolling left for a non-moving background? The rooms even so small the camera itself doesn't move >.>....
I just ruled out some of the cameras because it didn't make sense to use them for those backgrounds, but I guess logic doesn't get a say in the matter...

THE HELL!!?

....Wow...
I didn't know there were Magic cards like that....
Just like I didn't know there were Void Mages in Runescape...
Or there was a town called Lowell....

Not really..

Eh, wouldn't really suit Lowell...
You'll see what I mean later....if I can get the stupid backgrounds to ever work -.-"
I made an exact copy of a level I made earlier {The one I got the background to finally work on}, and the only difference is a few entities and script changes, and now I can't even find a working camera for the background >.>"

Well.
Try reverting the PBM/BMP change.
I know it's a little inconvenient, but it seems to me to be the only logical problem.

You mean for all the data files, or just the backgrounds? I only changed one background to BMP, and that didn't seem to help....

Didn't you edit the EXE to accept BMP's?

Ah.
Yes, I did, but Iono if it'd be safe to switch back.....I've made several changes to a bunch of different data files, and the switch might screw them up...
I guess I'll try, though, since nothing else seems to be working, I'll just go back up the data...
