D'awwww
I haven't read through the rest of the thread because I see no point, but we used to have ducks. The super important thing you should know is that they have basically no way to defend themselves other than surfing away, so try to make sure you have a pond/pool/something for them to go to.

Also you should gets babby duck friends.

The duck might run away after it learns how to fly.

It will most likely be kept outside when it gets bigger. Not sure whether it will get clipped, or maybe it will be allowed to fly away when it's big enough. It is a wild animal after all, once it can take care of itself it might be let free.

There's that whole thing about baby ducklings sticking to their parental figures like velcro, but maybe that goes away when they get older. Could also depend on what breed it is because they're not all migratory. You might end up with a case where you have a duck that goes for wanders or flies off once a year but always comes back home in the end :>

It`ll become a pray, for sure. Reason: the instincts need to be "awakened" by the mother ducks behavior. E.g. chicken need to learn how to eat. Then there will be a problem when there is no "mother chicken". In that case often humans "teach" (awakening the instinct) them how to eat by picking up corn with hands (the hand looks like a chickens head to the little chicken). There is more things for it to learn as you think. For example chicken know about 45 (forgot the exact number) of "words" in quaking which they learn from the "mother chicken" and besides that they learn many "habitual actions" to survive. It is similar with ducks. It`ll be not competent to survive with unawakened instincts.

So:
A) Keep him until it`s death
B) Give it to a Zoo or other animal shelter
C) Eat it. But it`ll be hard I guess when you`ll grow to love it. But don`t release it since bye that it`s the same as you say "let it be eaten". Only the eater will not be you but an animal.

An animal eating another animal. What a horrible crime against nature.
