Hey everyone happy Christmas Eve we're aware of what's happened with the source code so to keep this simple absolutely don't post it on the site or use it to make mods with (it's not particularly preferable toward this end anyway) and tread lightly in general until we see how this settles, thanks to all and have a great holiday season -DT

If pixel isn't making a sequel, my interest levels are 0.2. Perhaps nicalis could make a good cavestory game but I have my doubts after they treated the Wiiware version like dogshit and mints. I haven't played the 3ds version, so I don't know if nicalis was really involved with it, but regardless I heard and saw that project went into the poo-poo platter as well..

If Cave Story 2 was handled by Nicalis, I'd be a bit concerned as well. They still haven't fixed some of the issues in Cave Story+ (Broken achievement, game crashes after completing machine gun challenge on Windows,)

THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT!
If I'm correct the achievement "Curse broken" is funnily enough, broken, and I doubt they'll be a CS2 within the next several lifetimes.....If anything, I agree with Double Think, it could as well be extra content to a game worked on by Nicalis.

I think if it does happen to be anything about Cave Story it's gonna be a spin-off. Cave Story ended with almost no room for sequels. And I don't like the idea of Nicalis creating an entire new Cave Story game. Cave Story+ is riddled with glitches that still aren't fixed.

Usually they get their fanart from the #洞窟物語 (#DoukutsuMonotagari) hashtag. But I don't see the gif anywhere. You might be on to something...
Edit : You can also see the rocket launcher in the gif. And since I can't find the fanart anywhere even with a reverse google image search... and the fact that the backround is the shade of purple usually used for transparency in sprite sheets... This could be official. I also presume the orange weapon is the fireball.
And if this is extra content for a game having nothing to do with Cave Story. Why would the Polar Star be the first frame of the gif? Why would almost half the weapons shown be some of the most recognizable Cave Story weapons?
Too many coincidences for this not to add up to SOMETHING.
