I think Pixel was getting sort of tired of people asking him about things in a game he made so long ago, so he just made something up on the spot. One of the reasons this wasn't explained was that it was supposed to be left to our imagination, right?

Missile Launcher, to tell the truth, isn't all that useful with Monster X. Stick to the Blade, even if it de-levels.
