No, but that's because one is a verb and the other is a noun. Hacking is what you do to create a mod. Hacking does not necessarily mean changing assembly – it could mean changing any data file as well. So hacking and modding are the same thing, and a hack is the same thing as a mod.

Um... you are 1000% wrong. Names do have meanings, and in fiction those meanings are often relevant to the character. "Jacob" means "holder of the heel" or "supplanter", or possibly "may God protect". That's probably irrelevant, though – most people don't choose names based on their meaning.
