This may or may not help. A newline on Windows consists of a carriage return (char 13) and a line break (char 10). On MS-DOS, chars 11 and 12 are sometimes interpreted as the two gender symbols. So it could be that for some reason the program is inserting '\11' or '\12' instead of '\10' or '\13'.
