The last form doesn't even require that many missiles to defeat. You can use some of them to reduce the time needed for second form.

You can do what I did: Download the 'Boss Rush' Cave Story mod and practice on Ballos until I got good enough to beat him every time.

I've beaten off to Curly Brace at least twenty times. I've also beaten Cave Story about five times: 2007: Bad ending and Good ending 2010: Good ending twice (one to get the spur, other to get the snake), then played through hell and beat Ballos. Cave Story takes a precious place in my heart...
