• Hey everyone happy Christmas Eve we're aware of what's happened with the source code so to keep this simple absolutely don't post it on the site or use it to make mods with (it's not particularly preferable toward this end anyway) and tread lightly in general until we see how this settles, thanks to all and have a great holiday season -DT

Hey, I have the original version of Cave Story on here and for a while I've wanted to run it in a windowed mode. I've tried various settings within the DoConfig file, as well as adding "-windowed" to the shortcut target and nothing works. This is on Win7 if that helps.

Thanks.

EDIT - Fixed!

Is there a file called config.dat in the same folder as Cave Story.exe?
Also did fullscreen mode work?

Full screen worked just fine. I tried a few more things after posting this and actually got it to work. Thank you anyway!

Tell us what you did so that the next person who has the same problem can find a solution.

Totally fair!

The initial thing I did was right click my shortcut, and in the "Compatibility tab" I checked "run in 640x480 screen resolution," which was a misstep on my part. Forgetting I had that checked, I also selected 640x480 in DoConfig after a quick Google search, which loaded the game in a 640x480 window that happened to be the size of my new resolution after the game loaded.

Moral of the story, the option in the DoConfig application works as stated. The compatibility mode checkboxes aren't needed for resolution issues.
