You may of seen Whyme's hell mod Contest...
Well this is basically like that.
So one evening me and Noxid where discussing different areas on the island.
Maybe theres places you didnt go to in the game?
Maybe theres a whole new enviroment?

So ok heres the deal
your mod must be based in an unseen environment which was not in cave story.
If your finding that hard then you can use a existing enviroment but from a different timeline (Past, Future)

If you already have a mod and youve got an enviroment like ralrens ice'y grasstown then enter it in a separate mod.
there doesnt have to be a storyline but there has to be a good level layout.
(Enemies and such)

This may not kick off but i am intrested in maiking a mod and would like to see what you guys can do aswell

Hmm, this seems interesting. Maybe now I'll have some motivation to actually learn to mod.

Okay before I say anything else, I've had very little time over the last week to devote to the forums, hence my inactivity. I'll be able to catch up on everything tomorrow. For now I'll just unlock this thread and let the particulars be figured out at a later stage.

I'm addicted to modding but don't like to be restricted to the Labyrinth I'm in.

I do actually intend to enter this, with an area from my old mod project that never really got anywhere. The trouble of course is that voting for the first one isn't even over and I'm terrified of winning one contest, let alone potentially two D:

Who says you're going to win this contest?
And anyway, even if you were to, it's not like it means anything :/
On an on-topic note, I might enter if I can decide on a tileset I like.
Extra resolution might give me an edge in something such as this.

Maybe I can do a crash course on level modding just for this? Good excuse :p

They say map modding in the easiest... I guess I can use Miza, no? :D

Anyways may take up to a week to get anything at all done...

MIZA!? O.o
Man, that is old-school.
Please, use Sue's or CE.

I will take ages to master those, In the meantime I will probably miss this and like another 3 contests... Miza is *somewhat* user friendly and has comparatively a really fast learning curve, even if it sucks and it's hard to do anything much more complicated than replacing tiles :p

Learning how to use CE or SW is really easy, especially if all you plan to do is edit map tiles and such.

If you cannot manage with CE or SW, well I doubt you can manage with Miza, since they basically perform the same functions.

Alternatively you can take Dragonboot's crash course on How to Mod (it uses CE).

CE is REALLY, easy to use. It basically does everything for you, it even shows if you made mistakes in the script. The only downside is that you have to copy maps.

I think I'll try entering this contest. I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to modding, but I"m learning. Hopefully, I can think of something. *Brain explodes from too much thought*

since they basically perform the same functions.

I know, that's fairly obvious. The question is how hard it it to make them perform it correctly. And I find drag and drop (and copy funny numbers into boxes -?-) about the only thing I can manage after being awake for twice the natural time, that's when I usually mod :D

I will use SW or CE eventually, just very tired to learn right now... just wanna make lil' maos without having to swallow 20-page step-by-step explaations and instructions that even require paying attention :p
Miza can do the tricks meanwhile xD ; I have maped fairly many other games before in not so different systems, and this is the one thats closest to them.

No hopes for winning this contest, though. Just for the "lulz".

But you don't need to learn, even on CE.
You just click in the right places and the editor does everything for you...

Oh, for choosing:
CE - Waaaay more features, script checking can get annoying when you're doing crazy stuff, no "save and play" function, you have to copy maps.
SW - Very few features comparatively, but is a bunch more stable (and user friendly, from my POV).

Miza has less features and is harder to use than both of these, but whatevs.
