The Core the Island and other stuffs

I've been confused about this for a while can someone explain to me something about the island

like does the island float naturally?
or does it fall naturally

and what do the cores do? (both regular and undead)

and what does ballos do to the island and stuff? or nothing?

Also I have a joke but please answer the other questions

What's the difference between a floating island and an apple?

the core of an apple doesn't attack you!

 

I think the core really just pulls the island up enough to prevent Ballos from pulling the thing down to the surface, hence why the island starts falling when you kill it both times.

 

As stated by Misery,

"Do you even know what this is? This is the heart of the island! If you stop it, the island will fall to the earth! Is that your grand plan? To take the island down with you in a blaze of glory?! Fools!!"

And then when you defeat the Undead Core, the island starts falling, which would make you think that the core holds it up.

It seems pretty simple really. The island floats naturally, Ballos makes it fall, but the core counters that so that it keeps floating.

So that when he beats ballos the island won’t float up like a balloon

 

Kazuma said that the possible way to stop an invasion of Enraged Mimigas is to destroy the Core, so that everything on it (mainly the Doctor and the Crown) just gets destroyed.
Yes, not the best way out, but sometimes you just do what you have to.
