Rule the world

He's a villain. He wants power, power, and more power. Specifically, he wants to rule the world. He would probably only kill those who dare to resist him.

I really don't understand. Why do people in vice-virtue fictions, or even in dumb hobby-related fictions want to rule the world so much?

They can't even rule everyone near them, and the world has nothing much anyway. So why?

 

Because he can.

 

The reason they do it is because...

We all want to change the world in which we live... Make it a better place.

Though they misunderstand that last part...
