• Hey everyone happy Christmas Eve we're aware of what's happened with the source code so to keep this simple absolutely don't post it on the site or use it to make mods with (it's not particularly preferable toward this end anyway) and tread lightly in general until we see how this settles, thanks to all and have a great holiday season -DT

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone here happened to know how to record Cave Story gameplay exclusively with the game's video and sound content.

Thus far, I can only record the game's sound along with my mic. I've used Soundflower for this kind of functionality in the past but it just doesn't want to capture any sound from Cave Story.

Thanks in advanced for your time and help!

Well there's an OSX tool for capturing audio from a single application called Audio Hijack, it's shareware but you can still make 15 minute (or maybe it's 10) recordings on the demo. That won't get you the video of course, but you could always record the video and audio separately and splice them together.

QuickTime Player can screen capture and audio capture.

Indeed, but it won't let me record sound from the game without the built-in mic on its own.

Edit: I think I figured it out. If I configure everything before opening up the game, everything seems to work fine, except it might ignore Soundflowerbed's setting to enable audio to be heard while recording until I set it again. If anyone's interested, I'd be glad to post a tutorial video on YouTube.

What OS do you have?

If it's Windows 7 then right-click on the speaker icon and click "Recording Devices". Now right-click in the settings and make sure "Show Disabled Devices" is ticked. Now enable and disable devices as needed.

For earlier versions of windows you can switch to the recording control in the settings box for volume control. After switching to the recording control just mute and unmute as needed.

I'm on a Mac, but I think I figured out what I need to do. Thanks for the the help anyway.

Gah! It was there in the title the entire time. I guess I'm looking rather foolish now.
